Omschrijving
Bouwblok A met 12 hofjeswoningen wordt gevormd door de noordwestelijk gelegen rij woningen van het uit twee bouwblokken bestaande complex "Martinushofje". De voorgevel wordt door de centraal opgestelde tuitgevel in twee gelijke delen verdeeld. Elke woning bezit aan de voorzijde een venster en deur onder een over twee woningen gedeelde dakkapel. Met uitzondering van de genoemde middenwoningen komen boven de vensters en deuren korfbogen voor en worden de vensteropeningen onderling met elkaar verbonden door een muizentandfries ter hoogte van de bovendorpels van de vensters. De met een tuitgevel opgetrokken middenwoningen bevatten door spaarvelden ingedeeld, drie traveeën. Het door een driepasboog binnen een lancetboog afgesloten middelste spaarveld bevat de gekoppelde voordeur onder een korfboog en boven een gekoppeld achtruits venster. Ter weerszijden reikt een met een vorktracering eindigende lagere lancetboog tot de schuine zijde van het dak. Begane gronds is een schuifvenster onder een segmentboog in het spaarveld opgenomen. In de muurdammen tussen de vensterbogen bevinden zich decoratieve muurankers. Siermetselwerk vult alle boogvelden boven de schuif- of draairamen in. De gevels worden beëindigd met een lijst van kraagstenen onder de bakgoot. De gevels van de kopse zijden zijn in opzet gelijk aan de tuitgevels van de hiervoor beschreven middenwoningen. De eindgevels wijken alleen af in de middelste travee begane gronds die blind is uitgevoerd en wordt beëindigd door een paar lancetboogjes.

Bouwblok A (nd/w), met twaalf hofjeswoningen deel uitmakend van het "Martinushofje" is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als goed voorbeeld van een zorgvuldig ontworpen en eenvoudig vormgegeven woonblok in Overgangarchitectuur met, beperkt tot enkele delen neo-gotische stijlkenmerken. Van cultuurhistorische waarde als onderdeel van het complex dat de herinnering levend houdt aan de 19de eeuwse sociale woningbouw.

Building block A with 12 almshouse dwellings is formed by the row of dwellings located to the northwest of the complex "Martinushofje" consisting of two building blocks. The front facade is divided into two equal parts by the centrally positioned spout gable. Each dwelling has a window and door on the front side under a roof dormer shared by two dwellings. With the exception of the aforementioned middle dwellings, basket arches appear above the windows and doors and the window openings are connected to each other by a brick dentil frieze at the height of the window sills. The middle dwellings constructed with a spout gable contain three bays divided by sparefields. The middle sparefield, closed by a tripartite arch within a lancet arch, contains the coupled front door under a basket arch and above a coupled light window. On either side, a lower lancet arch ending with fork tracery extends to the sloping side of the roof. On the ground floor, a sash window under a segmental arch is incorporated in the sparefield. Ornamental wall anchors are situated in the wall piers between the window arches. Decorative brickwork fills all arch fields above the sash or casement windows. The facades are terminated with a list of corbels under the gutter. The facades of the end sides are in design equal to the spout gables of the aforementioned middle dwellings. The end facades differ only in the middle bay on the ground floor which is executed blind and is terminated by a pair of small lancet arches.

Building block A (nd/w), with twelve almshouse dwellings forming part of the "Martinushofje" is of general importance due to its architectural-historical value as a good example of a carefully designed and simply formed residential block in Transitional Architecture with, limited to a few parts, neo-Gothic style characteristics. Of cultural-historical value as part of the complex that keeps alive the memory of 19th century social housing construction.
