OMSCHRIJVING
POLITIEPOST, uitgelegd op een in hoofvorm L-vormige plattegrond, in baksteen opgetrokken, daterend uit 1928. Het pand is gelegen op de hoek Tolsteegbrug/Wijde Doelen. Hoofdopzet van twee bouwlagen, op hoek Wijde Doelen/Tolsteegbrug verhoogd met torenelement, evenals links in de gevel aan Wijde Doelen. De uit aaneengeschakelde blokvormige bouwmassa's bestaande politiepost bevat onder meer in de voorgevel een poort (Tolsteegbrug) en een voor de conciërge bestemde poortwoning (Wijde Doelen). De poort, in de voorgevel grenzend aan de brug geeft toegang tot het singelplantsoen. De poortwoning maakt deel uit van een rij huizen, gelegen aan de Wijde Doelen.
Voorgevel (west) aan de Tolsteegbrug met torenachtige uitbouw waarin hoofdingang onder zwaar aangezette boog en beëindigd door met daktegels beklede opbouw. De vier stalen vensters op de beganegrond van de zuidvleugel zijn rondboogvormig, de overige rechthoekig met horizontale roede-indelingen, de lintvensters boven de verdieping zijn door twee zware kalven in drieruis vensters ingedeeld. Geheel rechts wordt het blinde muurvlak doorbroken door de eerder genoemde poort met een door radiaal metselwerk geaccentueerde boog als herhaling van identiek afsluiting als boven de vensters begane gronds voorkomt.
Noordgevel aan de Wijde Doelen met teruggeplaatst middendeel van twee bouwlagen tussen twee hoekmassieven. Links een soortgelijke poort (en op de verdieping lintvensters) als beschreven in de voorgevel met erboven gelegen conciërgewoning onder traditioneel pannen zadeldak, daarmee aansluitend aan de bestaande bebouwing. De achterzijde van de noordgevel met binnenplaats opvallend door poortopening met daarboven het balkon van de conciërgewoning waaroverheen het dak gelegd is met lintvenster en dakkapel. De binnenplaats wordt aan oost- en zuidzijde door latere aanbouw gesloten, die overigens van ondergeschikt belang is.
Interieur met oorspronkelijke detaillering, ondermeer glas-in-lood ramen in hal en toren, enkele karakteristieke deuren, trappenhuis en betimmering voormalige hoofd-inspekteurskamer. Interieur conciërgewoning met originele hal en trappenhuis.
Waardering
Politiepost, van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als goed en redelijk gaaf voorbeeld van Amsterdamse School en vanwege de stedebouwkundige waarde vanwege de markante positie nabij de brug en als randbebouwing tegen de, het centrum begrenzende, stadsgracht.

DESCRIPTION
POLICE STATION, laid out on a somewhat head-shaped L-shaped floor plan, erected in brick, dating from 1928. The building is located on the corner Tolsteegbrug/Wijde Doelen. Main design of two storeys, at the corner Wijde Doelen/Tolsteegbrug raised with a tower element, as well as to the left in the facade on Wijde Doelen. The police station consisting of connected blocky building masses contains among other things in the front facade a gateway (Tolsteegbrug) and a gatehouse dwelling intended for the concierge (Wijde Doelen). The gateway, in the front facade bordering on the bridge gives access to the canal-side public garden. The gatehouse dwelling forms part of a row of houses, located on the Wijde Doelen.
Front facade (west) on the Tolsteegbrug with tower-like projection in which main entrance under heavily emphasised arch and terminated by a superstructure clad with roof tiles. The four steel windows on the ground floor of the south wing are round-arch shaped, the rest rectangular with horizontal glazing bar divisions, the strip windows above the upper storey are divided into three-light windows by two heavy lintels. On the far right the blind wall surface is broken through by the aforementioned gateway with a door with radial brickwork accentuating the arch as a repetition of identical closure as occurs above the ground-floor windows.
North facade on the Wijde Doelen with set-back central section of two storeys between two corner masses. On the left a similar gateway (and on the upper storey strip windows) as described in the front facade with above it situated concierge dwelling under traditional tile gabled roof, thereby connecting to the existing building. The rear of the north facade with inner courtyard notable for a gateway opening with above it the balcony of the concierge dwelling over which the roof is laid with strip window and roof dormer. Police station, of general importance on account of architectural-historical value as a good and reasonably well-preserved example of the Amsterdam School and on account of urban planning value on account of the striking position near the bridge and as peripheral building against the city canal, which bounds the centre.
