Inleiding
De CALVARIEBERG bestaat uit een ondermetseling van hardgrauw in basterdtras met daarop de hardstenen standbeelden van de gekruisigde Christus met aan weerszijden Maria en Johannes. De beelden dateren uit 1893 en zijn vervaardigd door atelier De Roo te Roermond, waarvan het hoofdatelier in Mönchen-Gladbach was gevestigd. Aan de voet van de Calvarieberg liggen de bijbehorende hardstenen GRAFSTENEN van vier priesters: in het midden Th. Brouwer (gestorven in 1905), A.A. v. Eyndhoven (gestorven in 1914 en priester t.t.v. de aanleg), B.T. Stoveringa (gestorven in 1930) en J. v. Galkom (gestorven in 1964). Op het graf van Th. Brouwer is in Neo-gotische letters het monogram van het atelier ingegraveerd.
Omschrijving
De rechthoekige ondermetseling bestaat uit hardgrauw in basterdtras. De beelden zijn zodanig gebeeldhouwd dat zij zowel vanaf de voorkant als de zijkanten kunnen worden bekeken. Het hardstenen beeld van de gekruisigde Christus is in het midden geplaatst; het kruis is vrij fors, het hoofd van Christus hangt opzij en naar voren, de voeten steunen op een sokkeltje, waardoor hij niet echt aan zijn armen hangt. Maria staat aan zijn rechter zijde, Johannes aan zijn linker. De beelden zijn zeer expressief gebeeldhouwd: de verdrietige uitdrukking van de gezichten is zeer sprekend, alsmede de pose; de mantels van Maria en Johannes en de lendendoek om het middel van Christus vallen in een soepele en volle plooival. Introduction
The CALVARY consists of a masonry base of hardgrauw in bastard mortar on which stand the sandstone statues of the crucified Christ with on either side Mary and John. The statues date from 1893 and were made by the De Roo workshop in Roermond, whose main workshop was located in Mönchen-Gladbach. At the foot of the Calvary lie the associated sandstone GRAVE STONES of four priests: in the middle Th. Brouwer (died in 1905), A.A. v. Eyndhoven (died in 1914 and priest at the time of the laying out), B.T. Stoveringa (died in 1930) and J. v. Galkom (died in 1964). On the grave of Th. Brouwer the monogram of the workshop is engraved in Neo-gothic letters.
Description
The rectangular masonry base consists of hardgrauw in bastard mortar. The statues are sculpted in such a way that they can be viewed both from the front and from the sides. The sandstone statue of the crucified Christ is placed in the middle; the cross is fairly substantial, the head of Christ hangs to the side and forward, the feet rest on a small pedestal, so that he does not hang entirely by his arms. Mary stands at his right side, John at his left. The statues are very expressively carved: the sorrowful expression of the faces is very striking, as is the pose; the mantles of Mary and John and the loin cloth around the middle of Christ fall in soft and full drapery. The sandstone grave of priest Brouwer is placed in front of the Christ statue. On either side of it are the graves of priests Van Eyndhoven and Stoveringa. The most recent grave, of priest Van Galkom, is placed in front of Brouwer's grave.
