The register's description

Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDGEBOUW

Waardering

Het hoofdgebouw (Lyndenstein) is van algemeen belang:

- vanwege de ouderdom;

- vanwege de bouw-, bewonings- en gebruiksgeschiedenis;

- vanwege de architectonische vormgeving die een zekere voornaamheid uitstraalt;

- vanwege de samenhang tussen het exterieur en delen van het interieur;

- vanwege de aanwezigheid van waardevolle interieuronderdelen;

- vanwege de plaats die het gebouw inneemt in het oeuvre van de architect A. Bruinsma;

- vanwege de redelijke mate van gaafheid van ex- en interieur;

- vanwege de visuele en ruimtelijke relatie met het bijgebouw 1913 en de overtuin;

- vanwege de historische relatie met de andere voorname huizen in Beetsterzwaag;

Description component 1: MAIN BUILDING

A neoclassical rectangular main house built in 1821 consisting of a basement, two storeys and a truncated hipped roof covered with tiles above the cornice. Chimneys with boards at the corners. The front facade is seven bays wide and is articulated by a central risalit. The pediment was raised and built higher during the 1915 renovation. Dormer windows were also added at that time. Windows with back panes, sash windows and shutters. During the 1915 renovation the original entrance section was expanded into a platform under a balcony. A new entrance was created in the right side facade. In this facade a stone tablet commemorates the construction of the house by Frans Godard van Lynden. Although much has been adapted in the interior for its new function, some rooms on the piano nobile have been reasonably well preserved. These include the hall (where the dolls' house of Cornelia van Lynden (1860-1880) and her 1878 portrait in bas-relief by Pier Pander are located) and the board room and, on the upper floor, the large hall behind. In these rooms are found among other things stucco ceilings and decorations, wall panelling, cupboards and chimney pieces. A room of antiquities has also been arranged in memory of the residents of Lyndenstein and the early years of the children's hospital. The staircase with carved balusters deserves special mention.

The main building (Lyndenstein) is of general importance:

- because of its age;

- because of its building, occupancy and use history;

- because of the architectural design which radiates a certain dignity;

- because of the coherence between the exterior and parts of the interior;

- because of the presence of valuable interior components;

- because of the place the building holds in the oeuvre of architect A. Bruinsma;

- because of the reasonable level of preservation of exterior and interior;

- because of the visual and spatial relationship with the outbuilding 1913 and the back garden;

- because of the historical relationship with the other distinguished houses in Beetsterzwaag;

- because of its prominent location at the beginning of Hoofdstraat.
