Inleiding:
Representatief HERENHUIS in 1910 gebouwd in Neo-Lodewijk XVI-stijl naar ontwerp van architect A.W. Meyneken in opdracht van de familie Cuijper uit Schiedam.
N.B Het pand fungeert vanaf het begin van de jaren 50 als kantoorruimte en bibliotheek voor het ernaast gelegen Belastingmuseum.
Sinds 1993 wordt het kantoorpand door een transparante luchtbrug, naar ontwerp van Architectenbureau Van den Broek en Bakema, verbonden met het museumpand op Parklaan 16.
Omschrijving:
Representatief woonhuis met een ondiepe voortuin (in oorsprong omheind door een smeedijzeren hek), bestaande uit drie bouwlagen, een kelder en een kapverdieping. Het pand is drie vensterassen breed en wordt afgedekt met deels een plat dak en deels een zadeldak. Het pand is opgetrokken in rode baksteen met een geheel wit gepleisterde eerste bouwlaag en vensteromlijstingen. De kozijnen van vensters en deuren zijn van hout. Boven de begane grond wordt het boven de ingang gelegen, iets risalerende, rechter deel geaccentueerd door een gevelgeleding van gecanneleerde pilasters met korinthische kapitelen. Op de begane grond links een drie-zijdige erker en rechts de deur met geprofileerde omlijsting met in het bovenlicht, aan weerszijden èn boven de ingangspartij bloemguirlandes. Op de eerste verdieping drie T-vensters met rijk gedecoreerde vensteromlijstingen met onder de geprofileerde vensterbekroning een guirlande in Lodewijk de XVI-stijl. Op de tweede verdieping vrijwel dezelfde vensters maar hier zonder decoratie.
Alleen het venster in het licht risalerende deel heeft bovenin de omlijsting een guirlande. Het pand wordt beëindigd door een rijk gedecoreerde kroonlijst met triglyphen en consoles. Boven de daklijst een balustrade met boven de dubbele consoles van het risalerende geveldeel twee Empire-siervazen. Het rijke interieur bevindt zich nog grotendeels in de oorspronkelijke staat. Van bijzonder belang zijn de eikehouten lambrizeringen en parketvloeren, de rijk gedecoreerde marmeren en natuurstenen schouwen, de stucplafonds in verschillende stijlen (Empire en Um 1800) en het fraai vormgegeven trappenhuis met een bovenlicht met in het glas gezandstraalde bloemmotieven.
Waardering:
Representatief woonhuis van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde, alsook wegens ensemblewaarde als karakteristiek onderdeel van een in historiserende trant vormgegeven straatwand aan één van de hoofdstraten van het Scheepvaartkwartier.

Since 1993 the office building has been connected by a transparent air bridge, designed by Architectenbureau Van den Broek en Bakema, to the museum building at Parklaan 16.
Description:
Representative residential house with a shallow front garden (originally enclosed by a wrought-iron fence), consisting of three storeys, a basement and an attic storey. The building is three window bays wide and is covered partly with a flat roof and partly with a gabled roof. The building is constructed in red brick with an entirely white rendered first storey and window surrounds. The frames of windows and doors are of wood. Above the ground floor, the right section rising slightly above, located over the entrance, is accentuated by a facade articulation of fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals. On the ground floor on the left a three-sided bay window and on the right the door with moulded surround with flower garlands in the fanlight, on both sides and above the entrance section. On the first floor three T-windows with richly decorated window surrounds with beneath the moulded window cornice a garland in Louis XVI style. On the second floor virtually the same windows but here without decoration.
Only the window in the slightly rising section has a garland at the top of the surround. The building is terminated by a richly decorated cornice with triglyphs and consoles. Above the roof line a balustrade with above the double consoles of the rising facade section two Empire ornamental vases. The rich interior is still largely in the original state. Of particular importance are the oak-wood wainscoting and parquet floors, the richly decorated marble and natural stone fireplaces, the stucco ceilings in different styles (Empire and circa 1800) and the finely designed staircase with a fanlight with sand-blasted floral motifs in the glass.
Valuation:
Representative residential house of general importance due to architectural and cultural-historical value, as well as due to ensemble value as a characteristic component of a street facade designed in historicising manner on one of the main streets of the Shipping Quarter.
