Inleiding:
Representatief KANTOOR op de hoek Parklaan/Veerhaven, genaamd Scheepvaarthuis, in 1909 gebouwd in sobere Overgangsarchitectuur naar ontwerp van architect J.P. Stok Wzn. voor het bekende Rotterdamse redersbedrijf Goudriaan. In 1948 uitgebreid met een kapverdieping naar ontwerp van D. Roosenburg.
N.B. Bij een verbouwing in 1992-1993 is aan de zijgevel ter plaatse van een van de vensters op de begane grond een nieuwe ingangspartij aangebouwd en werden in het koperen dakvlak van de kapverdieping ramen aangebracht.
Omschrijving:
Boven een rechthoekige plattegrond geheel in natuursteen opgetrokken kantoorpand van drie bouwlagen en een kapverdieping voorzien van een met (groen)koperen platen bedekt schilddak/mansardedak. De gevels worden horizontaal geleed door een waterlijst/doorlopende dorpels tussen de vensters op de begane grond en cordonlijsten tussen de begane grond en de eerste verdieping en boven de tweede verdieping. De schuifvensters van de eerste drie bouwlagen zijn alle T-vormig en gevat in rechthoekige kozijnen, de vensters op de kapverdieping waren oorspronkelijk voorzien van kozijnen van staal. De voorgevel aan de Veerhaven heeft een streng symmetrisch, licht risalerend hoofddeel van vijf vensterassen breed en een smal iets terugliggend bouwdeel geheel links, van één vensteras. In het midden op de begane grond een dubbele geprofileerde houten deur met eenvoudig rechthoekig bovenlicht.
Boven de deur een bordes rustend op gedecoreerde natuurstenen consoles aan weerszijden van de ingang en een natuurstenen balustrade, met tussen de balusters gietijzeren decoraties. Op het bordes, gemonteerd aan de voorgevel, een vlaggemast. De vensters op de eerste verdieping hebben met meandermotieven gedecoreerde lateien. Hierboven een horizontale vensterbekroning rustend op gedecoreerde consoles aan weerszijden van de vensters. Tussen de vensters, direct boven de cordonlijst in het risalerende bouwdeel, tot aan de tweede verdieping doorlopende lisenen met aan de onder en bovenzijde een driehoekig ornament. Waarboven een attiek bestaande uit vierkante naar triglyfen verwijzende sierstenen boven de lisenen, afgewisseld door rechthoekige blokken. Tussen de sierstenen van de middelste vensteras staat gebeiteld in steen: SCHEEPVAARTHUIS. Hierboven, alleen boven de drie middelste vensterassen, een eierlijst. De eerste drie bouwlagen worden afgesloten door de geprofileerde daklijst van het voormalige dak. De zijgevel aan de Parklaan is acht vensterassen breed met eveneens een licht risalerend hoofddeel van zeven vensterassen. In de laatste teruggelegen vensteras, grenzend aan het naastgelegen pand, bevindt zich de zij-ingang: een dubbele geprofileerde houten deur. De gevelgeleding en detaillering is verder geheel conform de voorgevel. De in 1948 toegevoegde kapverdieping, eveneens uitgevoerd in natuursteen, sluit zorgvuldig aan op de symmetrie van de verdiepingen eronder. In de voorgevel een risalerend middendeel met, in een strook, drie liggende zesledige vensters en in de terugliggende delen links en rechts, ronde vensters. In de zijgevel bestaat het risalerende deel uit een strook van zeven liggende zesledige vensters. Hier geheel links een rond venster en rechts drie rechthoekige vensters. Volledig rondom een geprofileerde houten daklijst waarop boven de vensters twaalf bronzen beelden met figuren uit de dierenriem.
Waardering:
Representatief kantoorpand 1909, in 1948 uitgebreid met een kapverdieping, van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde. Als vroeg voorbeeld van kantoorbouw ten behoeve van de scheepvaart in het Scheepvaartkwartier geeft het pand tevens uitdrukking aan de voorspoedige ontwikkeling van de Rotterdamse haven.

Above a rectangular floor plan an office building constructed entirely in natural stone of three storeys and an attic storey provided with a hipped roof/mansard roof covered with (green) copper plates. The facades are articulated horizontally by a drip moulding/continuous sills between the windows on the ground floor and string courses between the ground floor and the first floor and above the second floor. The sash windows of the first three storeys are all T-shaped and set in rectangular frames, the windows on the attic storey were originally provided with steel frames. The front facade on the Veerhaven has a strictly symmetrical, slightly projecting main section five window bays wide and a narrow slightly recessed building section entirely on the left, of one window bay. In the middle on the ground floor a double moulded wooden door with simple rectangular fanlight.
Above the door a platform resting on decorated natural stone consoles on either side of the entrance and a natural stone balustrade, with cast-iron decorations between the balusters. On the platform, mounted to the front facade, a flagstaff. The windows on the first floor have lintels decorated with meander motifs. Above this a horizontal window cornice resting on decorated consoles on either side of the windows. Between the windows, directly above the string course in the projecting building section, continuing to the second floor, pilasters with at the top and bottom a triangular ornament. Above which an attic consisting of square ornamental stones alluding to triglyphs above the pilasters, alternating with rectangular blocks. Between the ornamental stones of the middle window bay is carved in stone: SCHEEPVAARTHUIS. Above this, only above the three middle window bays, an egg-moulding. The first three storeys are terminated by the moulded roof line of the former roof. The side facade on the Parklaan is eight window bays wide with likewise a slightly projecting main section of seven window bays. In the last recessed window bay, adjacent to the neighbouring building, is located the side entrance: a double moulded wooden door. The facade articulation and detailing is otherwise entirely in accordance with the front facade.
