Inleiding
HERENHUIS uit 1910 in Eclectische stijl, gebouwd voor de textielfabrikant J.J.C. van Dijk, als uitbreiding van het pand no.9 naar plannen van de architect L.J.P. Kooken. De familie Van Dijk bouwde tussen 1892 en 1910 aan de Markt een rij herenhuizen met in het midden de linnenfabriek. De huizen zijn op no. 6 na alle in diezelfde stijl opgetrokken. Ze vormen samen een symmetrisch geheel. Markt 10 ligt met drie zijden vrij op het perceel. De voor- of noordgevel staat aan de Markt. De oostkant sluit aan op Markt 9. Het huis is nu in gebruik als kantoor van de fabriek.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis heeft twee bouwlagen onder schilddak gedekt met natuursteen schubleien. De symmetrische voorgevel is drie traveeën breed, ze bevat gepleisterde hoekpilasters met in het dak een stenen kapel bekroond door driehoekig fronton. Op de verdieping een erker met gebogen zijramen op stenen consoles. De voor- en zijgevels zijn voorzien van een kroonlijst met een zware fries, consoles en een basement met een hardstenen plint. Het huis is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband. In het bovenlicht van de voordeur en in het daar boven liggende venster op de verdieping gekleurd glas-in-lood. Achter het huis een eenlaags keukenaanbouw onder zadeldak met oud-hollandse pannen. Het interieur bevat diverse authentieke onderdelen zoals: rijk bewerkte stucplafonds, fraai timmerwerk, trappenhuis, tussendeuren met geslepen glas en marmeren schouwpartijen en een glasraam met bloemmotieven in het trappenhuis.

Het woonhuis bij de linnenweverij Van Dijk is van algemeen belang. MANSION from 1910 in Eclectic style, built for textile manufacturer J.J.C. van Dijk, as an extension of property no. 9 according to plans by architect L.J.P. Kooken. The Van Dijk family built a row of mansions between 1892 and 1910 on the Markt with the linen factory in the middle. Except for no. 6, the houses are all built in the same style. Description
The dwelling house has two storeys under a hipped roof covered with natural stone graduated slate. The symmetrical front facade is three bays wide, it contains plastered corner pilasters and in the roof a stone chapel crowned by a triangular pediment. On the first floor a bay with curved side windows on stone consoles. The front and side facades are provided with a cornice with heavy frieze, consoles and a basement with an ashlar plinth. The house is built of machine-made brick laid in English bond. In the fanlight of the front door and in the window above it on the first floor coloured leaded glass. Behind the house a single-storey kitchen extension under a gabled roof with old-Dutch tiles. The interior contains various authentic components such as: richly worked stucco ceilings, fine timber work, staircase, internal doors with cut glass and marble fireplace features and a glass window with flower motifs in the staircase.
