Inleiding
FABRIEKSGEBOUW uit 1891 gebouwd voor de Linnenweverij v/h van Dijk & Zonen als kantoor, linnenweverij en magazijn. Dit gebouw vormt de kern van het complex. Het ligt centraal aan de zuidelijke pleinwand van de Markt, geflankeerd door een groep van vier symmetrisch opgebouwde monumentale herenhuizen, die deel uitmaken van het bovengenoemde weverijcomplex. Het bevat nu een kantine en ontvangstruimte.
Omschrijving
Het fabrieksgebouw, dat langgerekt van vorm is en haaks op de pleinwand ligt, bestaat uit één bouwlaag onder mansardekap gedekt met oud-hollandse en kruispannen. Het gebouw dat 14 traveeën telt is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband. De kopgevel aan de Markt is witgeschilderd en wordt afgesloten door een lijst van windveerpannen. Op de verdieping bevindt zich een hijsdeur met hijsbalk met ernaast T-vensters. Op de begane grond twee driedelige kruisvensters. De muuropeningen in de zijgevels zijn getoogd en deels vereenvoudigd. Een enkel raam bevat nog de oorspronkelijke kleine roedenverdeling. Ook in deze gevel bevindt zich een hijsdeur met hijsbalk. In de gevels gietijzeren geornamenteerde balkankers en geprofileerde lijstgoten. Inwendig verlaagde plafonds onder houten balklagen. Deels gemetselde toogjes op ijzeren profielen. De mansardekap wordt gedragen door tien houten Philibertspanten.
Waardering
Het fabrieksgebouw van de linnenweverij Van Dijk is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de nijverheid en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de laagbouw voor de textielindustrie. Het is architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de sobere opbouw en ornamentiek. Introduction
FACTORY BUILDING from 1891 built for the Linen Weaving Mill formerly van Dijk & Sons as office, linen weaving mill and warehouse. This building forms the nucleus of the complex. It is situated centrally on the southern side of the Markt, flanked by a group of four symmetrically constructed monumental town houses, which form part of the aforementioned weaving mill complex. It now contains a canteen and reception area.
Description
The factory building, which is elongated in form and perpendicular to the side of the square, consists of one storey under a mansard roof covered with Dutch and cross tiles. The building which comprises 14 bays is constructed of machine-made brick laid in cross bond. The gable facade on the Markt is whitewashed and is terminated by a course of wind-bar tiles. On the upper floor is a hoist door with hoist beam with T-windows beside it. On the ground floor two three-part cross windows. The wall openings in the side facades are arched and partly simplified. A single window still contains the original fine glazing bars. In this facade also is a hoist door with hoist beam. In the facades cast-iron ornamental wall anchors and profiled gutter strips. Internally lowered ceilings under timber baulk layers. Partly dry brick arches on iron profiles. The mansard roof is supported by ten wooden Philibert roof trusses.
