Inleiding
Aan de westzijde van de Wilhelminastraat gelegen WOONBLOK. Het woonblok, dat deel uitmaakt van de gevelwand tussen de Prins Hendrikstraat (noord) en Mauritsstraat (zuid), grenst aan de noordzijde aan de pastorie Wilhelminastraat 22 en aan de zuidzijde aan het woonhuis Wilhelminastraat 30.
Het in Eclectische trant opgetrokken woonblok omvat drie woningen en werd in 1884 gebouwd naar ontwerp van S. Roog. Het woonblok maakt onderdeel uit van het formele stedenbouwkundige plan van de Wilhelminastraat en haar directe omgeving. De Wilhelminastraat werd in 1881 aangelegd als hoofdas van een westelijke stadsuitbreiding die plaats vond op de plek van de gedempte voormalige stadssingel. Deze stadsuitbreiding kenmerkt zich door een regelmatig en strak stratenpatroon, waarbij de individueel ontworpen woonblokken en woonhuizen een architectonische eenheid vormen. Met name langs de Wilhelminastraat en Mauritsstraat zijn de uit verschillende woonblokken en woonhuizen opgetrokken straatwanden opvallend door hun stedenbouwkundige eenheid en architectuur. De woonbebouwing langs de Wilhelminastraat wordt afgewisseld door een kerk en twee scholen, welke eveneens in de stedenbouwkundige opzet van de straat passen.
Omschrijving
Uit drie herenhuizen bestaand woonblok op rechthoekige plattegrond. Iedere woning is opgebouwd uit een begane grond, verdieping, mezzanino en kapverdieping. Het gehele woonblok wordt gedekt door een doorlopend afgeknot zadeldak, dat met de noklijn parallel aan de straat ligt. De kap is bekleed met zwarte kruispannen. Het in baksteen opgetrokken woonblok staat op een hardstenen plint en is langs de voorgevel versierd met gepleisterde detailleringen van hout of steen. Onder de vensters op de begane grond en verdieping bevindt zich een brede cordonlijst. Boven langs de gevel loopt een breed fries met kleine versierde consoles die de houten kroonlijst ondersteunen. Ter hoogte van de middelste woning bezit het fries een tandlijst. De hoeken van de drie woningen worden geaccentueerd door verticale lisenen met natuursteenblokken-motief. Elke woning is vier vensterassen breed, waarbij de vensteras waarin zich de entree bevindt (de tweede of derde vensteras) risaleert. Deze risalerende vensterassen worden geaccentueerd door een door consoles ondersteund balkon ter hoogte van de verdieping. De entree zelf bestaat uit een door middel van een drie treden tellende natuurstenen trap bereikbare paneeldeur, welke wordt afgesloten door een fronton. De vensters in de voorgevel van het woonblok zijn op de begane grond en verdieping alle houten schuifvensters met op de verdieping een T-naald. Ter hoogte van de balkons bevinden zich dubbele openslaande houten balkondeuren met bovenlicht. De vensteropeningen op de begane grond zijn omrand door een wit gepleisterde band met wenkbrauw. De vensteropeningen op de verdieping hebben eveneens een bepleisterde omranding maar worden bovenaan afgesloten door een hoofdgestel met gebogen fronton dat rijk versierd is met onder meer festoenen. De vensters ter hoogte van de mezzanino zijn dubbele houten vensters, waarbij de vensters in het middelste woonhuis hoger zijn dan in de twee hoekwoningen.
De achtergevel van het woonblok is soberder van uitvoering en decoratie en bezit in oorsprong verscheidene formaten houten vensters en ter hoogte van de begane grond serres en openslaande houten deuren.

Residential block consisting of three gentlemen's houses on a rectangular ground plan. Each dwelling is built up from a ground storey, first storey, mezzanine and attic storey. The entire residential block is covered by a continuous truncated gabled roof, the ridge line of which is parallel to the street. The roof is clad with black interlocking tiles. The residential block, constructed in brick, stands on a hardstone plinth and is along the front facade decorated with plastered detailing in wood or stone. Beneath the windows on the ground storey and first storey there is a broad string course. At the top of the facade runs a broad frieze with small decorated consoles which support the wooden cornice. At the height of the middle dwelling the frieze has a dentil moulding. The corners of the three dwellings are accentuated by vertical pilasters with natural stone block motifs. Each dwelling is four window bays wide, with the window bay in which the entrance is located (the second or third window bay) projecting. These projecting window bays are accentuated by a balcony supported by consoles at the height of the first storey. The entrance itself consists of a panel door accessible by means of a three-step natural stone staircase, which is finished by a pediment. The windows in the front facade of the residential block are on the ground storey and first storey all wooden sash windows with a T-bar on the first storey. At the height of the balconies are double casement wooden balcony doors with fanlight. The window openings on the ground storey are framed by a white plastered band with eyebrow. The window openings on the first storey likewise have a plastered frame but are finished at the top by an entablature with curved pediment richly decorated with among others festoons. The windows at the height of the mezzanine are double wooden windows, with the windows in the middle dwelling being taller than in the two corner dwellings.
