Omschrijving
Inleiding
In 1889-1890 in eclectische trant gebouwde VRIJSTAANDE VILLA.

Description
Introduction
A DETACHED VILLA built in eclectic style in 1889-1890. The villa, situated on the south side of the Florapark, was designed by architect D.E.L. van den Arend on commission of Mr. George Conrad Everwijn de Lange, secretary of the Haarlemmermeerpolder. The garden surrounding the property was originally designed by L. Springer, but is now largely laid out as a car park. On the south side of the plot, a stable with coach house and coachman's residence were built in 1893-1894. The property is currently (1993) in use as office space.
The Florapark was designed in 1873 by L.P. Zocher and formed part of a plan for the development and construction of the Hazepatersveld. The Hazepatersveld was a meadow, situated between the Dreef, Hazepaterslaan and Wagenweg, which shortly before 1873 had been purchased by the municipality of Haarlem from the Mennonite congregation. The municipality of Haarlem intended to transform the meadow into a villa park and commissioned the enterprise of L.P. Zocher's father, J.D. Zocher & Co., to design a plan for the development and construction of the Hazepatersveld.
In this development plan, which was completed in 1873, a contrast is visible between, on the one hand, the formal, urban layout as conceived for the Floraplein and the Dreef and, on the other hand, the landscape layout of the Florapark and part of the Hazepaterslaan.
In total, 50 residential houses were projected in the plan. In the ultimate execution, however, 56 would be realised, resulting in a certain densification of the original design.
First to be realised was the urban-looking eclectic development along the Floraplein (1876-'77), followed by the neo-Renaissance residential blocks along the Dreef (1880 and 1882). The Florapark and the western part of the Hazepaterslaan were only developed in the period after 1880, after the park layout designed in English landscape style had been completed.
In the Florapark, eight detached villas and three semi-detached villas were built in the period 1880-1892. One of these villas, situated on the corner with the Wagenweg, was demolished in 1939 and replaced by a school. The remaining villas are, however, still present in the park and for the most part remain in their original state. The park layout and the plot division (no densification of the plots has taken place) are also for the most part original. The Florapark has thereby retained its character as a villa park.
The boundary fences between the public road and the plots at the Florapark, Dreef and Hazepaterslaan were designed in a uniform style when the villa park was laid out. These original boundary fences are still present at all properties, whether or not partly reconstructed.
N.B. The former stable building on the south side of the plot falls outside the protection, given the later major alterations that have been made.
Description
Detached villa consisting of basement, bel-étage, first storey and attic storey. The whole is built on a composite rectangular ground plan and is covered by a truncated hipped roof covered with grey shingles. In the eastern roof slope there is a small original roof dormer with classicist details.
The property is built of grey brick on a rendered plinth, which along the front facade (north) is faced with natural stone. The detailing in the facades is of plasterwork. Thus, at the top of the facades, just below the surrounding wooden profiled cornice, a broad band of plasterwork has been applied all around. Also, between the bel-étage and the first storey there is a surrounding rendered and profiled string course. Furthermore, a total of four further horizontal bands of plasterwork have been applied to the facades. The windows possess in all four facades virtually identical, richly worked plasterwork surrounds. These surrounds are virtually everywhere topped off by plasterwork ornamentation in eclectic style. Below all windows there is a decorated plasterwork band the width of the window.
The front facade (north) is three window bays wide. The middle, projecting, window bay is closed off at the corners by rendered and rusticated corner quoins. In this middle window bay there is the entrance on the bel-étage. This entrance consists of a double wooden door with classicist details and is surrounded by an arch of ornamental plasterwork. The entrance is reached by means of a five-step natural stone staircase. Above the entrance there is a rendered balcony, supported by rendered consoles. The balcony door is a double opening door. The middle window bay is continued above the cornice to a roof dormer which is decorated with rendered details in eclectic style. The roof dormer, which is provided on either side with among other things claws and pirons, is closed off by a semi-circular pediment. The two other window bays in the north facade have wooden sash windows both on the bel-étage and on the first storey.
On the east side of the north facade, on the chamfered corner with the east facade, there is a rectangular projection projecting forward which above the cornice is closed off by a truncated tent roof with curved roof slopes. In the northern roof slope there is an oculus. The projection has over three sides both on the bel-étage and the first storey a wooden (T-)sash window.
The east facade furthermore has three window bays. The left and right window bays have a blind window on the first storey. The middle window bay has a wooden T-sash window on the first storey. On the bel-étage there are in total three wooden sash windows in this facade.
The rear facade (south) is extended over virtually the entire bel-étage by approximately two metres. This brick extension built in the style of the property is closed off by a flat roof and has on the south side an approximately one metre deep oriel window. Beside this partly wooden oriel window, the extension has on the east side one wooden T-sash window. To the west of the extension there is on the bel-étage of the south facade one wooden sash window. On the first storey there are in this facade three wooden T-windows.
The west facade has in total three window bays. The left, somewhat recessed, window bay has two blind windows. The other two window bays have wooden sash windows on the bel-étage (the left one with a T-form) and on the first storey a blind window in the right window bay and a wooden T-sash window in the left window bay.
The interior of the property is still partially original. The garden surrounding the property is nowadays largely laid out as a car park. Only on the north side of the plot is the garden still somewhat intact. The villa has on the street side still the original boundary fence. This boundary fence consists of a low brick wall topped by a hardstone plint, with on top of it a dark green painted wrought iron ornamental railing. The boundary fence is interrupted in two places for an entrance. These entrances consist of double opening railings which are marked on either side by a dark green painted fluted iron column on a hardstone basement. The Corinthian capital of the column is crowned by a gold-coloured painted pine cone.
Valuation
Well-preserved villa with associated boundary fence of general importance for its architectural-historical and cultural-historical value, as well as for its ensemble value as part of the villa development in the Florapark, which is valuable for its landscape layout.
