Inleiding
GRAFMONUMENT, opgericht tot nagedachtenis van B.J.R. van Hasselt in neo-classicistische stijl uit omstreeks 1860, behorende tot het complex "Algemene begraafplaats Amersfoortsestraatweg" te Bussum. B.J.R. van Hasselt was oud-burgemeester en med. doctor te Naarden.
Omschrijving
Het grafmonument meet 216x192x245cm en bestaat uit een rechthoekig vak, afgezet met banden van baksteen met op de hoekpunten natuurstenen neuten waarop de stijlen van het ijzeren grafhek staan, en een obelisk op een bakstenen sokkel. De obelisk is aan de top voorzien van een gebeeldhouwde gedrapeerde doek die aan de voorzijde is opengetrokken. Op deze plaats is een gebeeldhouwde versiering zichtbaar in de vorm van een aesculaap met een bloem links en twijgen rechts. Daaronder is tekst aangebracht in verdiept zwart gelakt Latijns kapitaal: "TER NAGEDACHTENIS VAN/B.J.R. VAN HASSELT/OUD-BURGEMEESTER/EN MED. DOCTOR/TE NAARDEN/OVERL. "1 DEC. 186?", waaronder een halve eiken takkenkrans is gebeeldhouwd. Op de geprofileerde sokkel is de tekst aangebracht: "DOOR ZIJNE VRIENDEN". Het grafhek, 86 cm. hoog, bevat vier rijk versierde gietijzeren hoekstijlen, bekroond met granaatappels. Smeedijzeren liggers en diagonalen verbinden de hoekstijlen. In het hart van de vier vlakken bevindt zich een ovaal met gietijzeren funeraire ornamenten zoals een staartbijtende slang op de ovaalvorm, een vliegende zandloper in de ovaalvorm en twee gekruisde zeisen waarvan alleen nog de stelen aanwezig zijn diagonaal achter de ovaal.

Description
The grave monument measures 216x192x245cm and consists of a rectangular plot, bordered with bands of brickwork with at the corner points natural stone finials upon which the posts of the iron grave fence stand, and an obelisk on a brick base. The obelisk is provided at the top with a sculptured draped cloth which is opened back at the front. At this location a sculptured ornament is visible in the form of an aesculapian snake with a flower on the left and twigs on the right. Below this text is placed in recessed black lacquered Latin capitals: "TER NAGEDACHTENIS VAN/B.J.R. VAN HASSELT/OUD-BURGEMEESTER/EN MED. DOCTOR/TE NAARDEN/OVERL. 1 DEC. 186?", below which a half oak twig wreath is sculptured. On the profiled base the text is placed: "DOOR ZIJNE VRIENDEN". The grave fence, 86 cm. high, contains four richly decorated cast-iron corner posts, crowned with pomegranates. Wrought-iron beams and diagonals connect the corner posts. In the heart of the four surfaces there is an oval with cast-iron funerary ornaments such as a tail-biting serpent on the oval form, a flying hourglass in the oval form and two crossed scythes of which only the handles are still present diagonally behind the oval.
