Inleiding
Het TUINSIERAAD is een zuil, die lokaal bekend staat als de Burmaniazuil. Het object bevindt zich op het snijpunt van het kruisvormige padenbeloop in het bosperceel achter de Slotplaats. Dit zogenaamde Sterrebos is vermoedelijk in het begin van de 19de eeuw aangelegd. Het terrein behoorde oorspronkelijk tot de lusttuinen om een landhuis, het zogenaamde Blauwhuis, dat in 1837 is gesloopt. Rond 1750 was dit huis in bezit van Jhr. E.H. van Burmania, raadsheer in het Hof van Friesland. Oorsprong en functie van de zuil zijn onbekend. De zuil speelde een rol in de Bakkeveenster folklore als zijnde de plaats waarvandaan de kinderen zouden komen.
Omschrijving
Het parkobject bestaat uit een piëdestal waarop aan alle vier zijden in een lijstpaneel een leeuwekop met een ring in de muil; een trommelzuil van de dorische orde en een kapiteel met een trapsgewijze bekroning. Het object bevindt zich op het snijpunt van het kruisvormige padenbeloop van het Sterrebos achter de Slotplaats.
Waardering
Het parkobject, de zogenaamde Burmaniazuil, is van algemeen cultuurhistorische waarde:
- vanwege de cultuurhistorische betekenis voor de lokale folklore,
- vanwege de historische relatie met het vroegere landhuis ter plaatse,
- vanwege de functie als markeringspunt in het zogenaamde Sterrebos,

Introduction
The GARDEN ORNAMENT is a column, locally known as the Burmania Column. The object is situated at the intersection of the cross-shaped path layout in the wooded plot behind the Slotplaats. This so-called Sterrebos was presumably laid out in the early 19th century. The land originally belonged to the ornamental gardens surrounding a country house, the so-called Blauwhuis, which was demolished in 1837. Around 1750 this house was owned by Jhr. E.H. van Burmania, counsellor at the Court of Friesland. The origin and function of the column are unknown. The column played a role in Bakkeveen folklore as being the place from which children were said to come.
Description
The park object consists of a pedestal on which on all four sides in a panel frame a lion's head with a ring in its mouth; a drum column of the Doric order and a capital with a stepped crown. The object is situated at the intersection of the cross-shaped path layout of the Sterrebos behind the Slotplaats.
