Inleiding
VILLA, in eclectische stijl gebouwd als directeurswoning in 1874 in opdracht van W. Swinkels. Een verbouwing vond plaats in ca. 1895.
Typologisch en stilistisch komt het pand overeen met de fabrikantenvilla aan de Mierloseweg 1B. Het aangebouwde eenlaagse kantoor en pakhuisgedeelte uit ca. 1920 is in 1991 gesloopt. Hierdoor is de villa geheel vrij komen te staan.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaagse pand heeft een afgeplat schilddak met leien in rensdekking. De gevel bestaat uit twee delen; links een deel van twee vensterassen met de deur, en rechts een driezijdige uitbouw.
De uitbouw is opgezet als een doorgaande erker over beide bouwlagen. De gevel is opgetrokken in bruine machinale baksteen en heeft een geleding van rode baksteen voor de strekken en gepleisterde en wit geschilderde speklagen bij onder- wissel- en bovendorpels. In de plint op de begane grond zijn ter hoogte van de vensters verdiepte velden aangebracht. Hier boven staat de doorgaande dorpellijst. In de drie erkerzijden bevinden zich schuifvensters, gelijk aan de vensters er boven. Naast de erker de paneeldeur met diamantkussens en smeedijzeren sierrooster. Rechts van de deur is een terracotta tegel ingemetseld met de Heilige Maagd Maria, waarschijnlijk uit ca. 1945. Naast de deur een gekoppeld schuifvenster; een gelijkvormig raam hierboven en een T-venster boven de deur. Alle vensters en het bovenlicht van de deur zijn afgedekt met een segmentboog van rode verblendsteen met uitkragende koppenlaag en sluitsteen. De boogvullingen van de vensters en van de verdiepte velden in de borstwering bij de verdieping bestaan uit polychrome tegels met geometrisch patroon. De borstwering van de verdieping is aan boven- en onderzijde geaccentueerd met een geprofileerde stuclijst, net als het fries onder de gootlijst. Het fries heeft gepleisterde hoekblokken, een tandlijst en polychroom siermetselwerk. In het midden van het dak staat een kleine vierruits dakkapel onder plat dak. De erker heeft aan de voorzijde en deels op de hoeken een brede dakkapel onder plat dak. De ramen hebben een verdeling in kleine roeden. Boven de gepleisterde linkerzijgevel bevindt zich op het dak de schoorsteen, waarop de oorspronkelijke getordeerde terracotta schoorsteenpotjes staan.
Waardering
De villa is van algemeen belang. Zij heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de industrialisatie in oostelijk Noord-Brabant, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van een ook op landelijk niveau prominente industrialisatie-as aan de Zuid-Willemsvaart. VILLA, built in eclecticist style as a director's residence in 1874 on commission of W. Swinkels. A renovation took place around 1895.
Typologically and stylistically the building corresponds with the manufacturer's villa at Mierloseweg 1B. The adjoining single-storey office and warehouse section from around 1920 was demolished in 1991. As a result the villa became entirely detached.
Description
The two-storey building has an oblique hipped roof with slates in German bond. The facade consists of two parts; on the left a part of two window bays with the door, and on the right a three-sided extension.
The extension is constructed as a continuous bay window over both storeys. The facade is built up in brown mechanical brick and has articulation of red brick for the stretchers and plastered and white-painted courses at under-, mid- and upper sills. In the plinth on the ground floor depressed panels are arranged at the height of the windows. Above this stands the continuous sill line. In the three bay window sides are sash windows, similar to the windows above. Next to the bay window the panel door with diamond-point cushioning and wrought-iron decorative grille. To the right of the door a terracotta tile is set in the wall depicting the Holy Virgin Mary, probably from around 1945. Next to the door a coupled sash window; a similar window above and a T-window above the door. All windows and the fanlight of the door are covered with a segmental arch of red facing brick with projecting bed course and voussoir. The arch fillings of the windows and of the depressed panels in the parapet at the storey level consist of polychrome tiles with geometric pattern. The parapet of the storey is accented at top and bottom with a moulded stucco line, as is the frieze below the gutter line. The frieze has plastered corner blocks, a dentil moulding and polychrome decorative brickwork. In the middle of the roof stands a small four-light roof dormer under flat roof. The bay window has on the front and partly at the corners a broad roof dormer under flat roof. The windows have a division into small glazing bars. Above the plastered left side facade stands on the roof the chimney, on which stand the original twisted terracotta chimney pots.
Valuation
The villa is of general interest. It has cultural-historical values as an example of the socio-economic development of industrialisation in eastern North Brabant, in particular the development of an industrialisation axis on the Zuid-Willemsvaart that is also prominent at national level. It has architectural-historical values as an example of the manner in which eclecticist motifs were used to increase the degree of representation of the bourgeoisie and the manufacturers. The building has ensemble value as part of an industrial and transit area of national importance. It has been preserved in good condition.
