Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The CLOISTER of the Crucifix Fathers was erected in 1904-05 in neo-Gothic style to the design of C. Franssen. The extension of 1985 falls outside the protection.
Description
On the left-hand side of the Mariakapel is located the L-shaped cloister, which together with the chapel encloses a rectangular forecourt behind the aforementioned wrought-iron fencing between brick pillars. The complex was created at the same time as the chapel and was enlarged to the rear in 1939 and again in 1985 with, among other things, a wing in the Delft School style. It has two storeys, covered with slate gabled roofs and is constructed from the same materials as the chapel. The left wing has a stepped gable with three window axes and a neo-Gothic entrance portal. This wing has eight bays, up to the junction with the perpendicularly oriented wing, which runs parallel to the street and has six bays. The detailing is fairly simple with decorative brickwork in the yellow joints and a diamond pattern in the stepped gable. The six-part casement windows under segmental arches with decorative brickwork infills were renewed in plastic in 1993, with a departure from the six-pane division on the upper storey. The roofs have stone roof dormers with weather vanes. The rationalist-neo-Gothic character is evident from the staircase projecting slightly from the left wing and the staircase on the rear side covered by a separate tent roof. The later wing is constructed of brick and has arched casement windows, wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors and a covered space on the garden side.
Internally the building is accessed by central corridors, with the exception of the wing situated parallel to the road, which has a wide corridor on the street side below. The corridors have flat stucco ceilings and on the ground floor a black-and-white pattern consisting of marble and hardstone. All rooms have simple neo-Gothic panelled doors, some with fanlights. The left wing comprises on the front the guest quarters with its own staircase, reception rooms below and guest rooms above. The staircase has a wooden neo-Gothic newel post. Behind the guest quarters is the former locked section with the former refectory on the garden side. Here are also found the former prior's chamber and a library with wooden cupboards around and in the middle with simple stencilled decoration. The library was provided with a wooden gallery in 1947. The staircase on the garden side has terrazzo stairs and wrought-iron banisters with neo-Gothic moulding.
Adjacent to the chapel is the sacristy with a simple, possibly early-nineteenth-century oak credenza with partly porcelain drawer handles. Above the sacristy is the night choir of the Fathers with neo-Gothic stained glass and a collar-tie roof truss with four corbels provided with heads. The eight windows depict: Helena, Quiriacus, Beatus Luberthus, Theodorus de Cellis, Johannes de Eppa, Abbatulus, Innocentius II approves the order of the Holy Cross, Matthias Apostle appears to Baron De Merode (F. Nicoals, Roermond, 1916). Against the walls four sets of early-19th-century choir stalls with three and four seats and a canopy with fluted pilasters and round-arched recesses. On the upper floor the brothers' rooms.
In the rear wing is now located the refectory with simple oak benches and a collar-tie roof truss. In the adjoining spaces were originally workshops and a laundry. The old internal telephone installation has been retained as a memorial.
