Inleiding
De ABRI en de TOEGANGSMUUR, die bij het Psychiatrisch Ziekenhuis Franeker te Franeker horen, zijn in 1932 ontworpen, tegelijkertijd met de dokterswoning "Huize Griend". Het gebouwtje met muur bevindt zich aan de Harlingerweg en markeert de voormalige hoofdingang van het terrein. De voorzijde is naar het zuiden georinteerd.
Ontwerper ervan was M.B. van Dorth, de gemeentearchitect. Het is in de Interbellum-stijl gebouwd, waarbij elementen van het Zakelijk Expressionisme zijn toegepast. Het blokvormige gebouwtje, dat in oorsprong open was, is nu van een deur voorzien en wordt voor de gasreducering gebruikt. Omschrijving
De Abri heeft een vierkante plattegrond, open (oorspronkelijk) aan de zuidzijde. Het gebouw wordt gedekt door een tentdak van mat-zwart geglazuurde Hollandse pannen op een diep overstek. Op de nok bevindt zich een keramische piron. De Abri is net als de toegangsmuur in bruine bakstenen opgetrokken; de plint wordt aangegeven door een rollaag. De voorgevel bestaat uit twee muurdelen met twee zesruits vensters en in het midden de opening die op een latere datum in verband met de veranderde functie door een houten deur is afgesloten. Vóór de twee muurdelen links en rechts steken de zijgevels naar voren als twee robuuste treden. Vóór de deur is het betegeld. De vensters (met stalen roedeverdeling en betonnen dorpels)- bevinden zich direct onder het diepe dakoverstek. In de zijgevels zijn, op een hoek met die van de voorgevel, nog twee zijruitvensters geplaatst.
De achtergevel wordt geflankeerd door twee korte muurdelen die in de verlenging van de plint zijn doorgetrokken en afgesloten worden door twee bakstenen vierkante hoekpijlers. Introduction
The SHELTER and the ACCESS WALL, which belong to the Psychiatric Hospital Franeker in Franeker, were designed in 1932, at the same time as the doctor's residence "Huize Griend". The Shelter has a square floor plan, open (originally) on the south side. The building is covered by a tent roof of matt-black glazed Dutch tiles with a deep overhang. On the ridge is a ceramic finial. The Shelter, like the access wall, is built in brown brick; the plinth is indicated by a roll course. The front facade consists of two wall sections with two six-light windows and in the middle the opening which at a later date was closed by a wooden door in connection with the changed function. The side facades protrude in front of the two wall sections on the left and right as two robust steps. In front of the door is tiling. The windows (with steel glazing bars and concrete sills) are located directly below the deep roof overhang. In the side facades, at a corner with that of the front facade, two more six-light windows are placed.
The rear facade is flanked by two short wall sections that are continued in line with the plinth and are closed off by two square brick corner pilasters. To the right of the Shelter is the wall section which consists of two parts (left and right of the entrance drive), on which the name "Groot" and "Lankum" is placed on two rectangular corner pilasters. The left section is larger than the L-shaped right section. Both sections are closed off by a square corner pilaster.
