Omschrijving
- de sociale en economische betekenis van Thomas Ainsworth en de gebr. Salomonson voor de ontwikkeling van de textielindustrie;
- de sociale en economische betekenis van de textielfabriek;
- het feit dat de textielfabriek het ontstaan en ontwikkeling van Nijverdal positief heeft beïnvloed;
- de nog bestaande sheddaken, stalen vakwerkconstructie en details in Art Nouveau-stijl;
- de ruimtelijke en functionele samenhang met het kantoor en het ketelhuis;
- de beeldbepalende ligging van de fabriekshallen;
- de relatieve gaafheid van delen van het exterieur van de hallen;
- de zeldzaamheid van sheddaken in Nederlandse industriecomplexen.

Description
Description The FACTORY HALLS belonging to the factory complex have been built in phases (among others in 1852, 1863 and 1927). Part of the halls was substantially altered in 1970-1990 and is not protected.
The factory halls are one storey high, the outer facades are largely built in red brick. Partially they are still equipped with authentic sawtooth roofs. With the sawtooth roofs, apart from the grey slate tiles and red tuiles de nord tiles, one side of each sawtooth is largely provided with glass and wood has been used. The sawtooth roof on the Salomonsonstraat projects over on cleats, the roof edge has a wooden trim. A number of sawtooth roofs were replaced in 1952 by new sawtooth roofs and a number of sawtooth roofs were replaced by modern flat roofs in the years 1970-1990.
The long facades on the Grotestraat and Salomonsonstraat are articulated by large panel fields under segmental arches in yellow and red brick. The panel fields are separated from each other by narrow pilasters. In a number of panel fields are two-light windows or niches placed under segmental arches with plastered blocks and red brick. On the Salomonsonstraat are two mortared-up door openings under identical segmental arches and tile tableaux with the inscriptions "Koninklijke Stoomweverij" and "1927". Also some components in the long facade of the factory halls on the Grotestraat recall the past. On the left in the facade is a sandstone plaque placed with the inscription: "The Commissioner of the King in the Province Over-IJssel Jonkheer Mr. C. Backer laid the First Stone on the 4th of June 1852 at this Steam Weaving Factory of G.& H. Salomonson". Six bays to the right thereof stands a bronze bust of King Willem III from 1893 by Huner in a niche within a frame of yellow brick. Below it a granite plaque with the years 1836 and 1936 and the inscription: "In 1836 trade and industry join hands and at Nijverdal through cooperation of the Nederlandsche Handelsmaatschappij and Thomas Ainsworth the foundation is laid for the further development of Twenthe's textile industry, Nijverdal August 1936". The facades of the factory on the courtyard of the complex likewise have panel fields under segmental arches. The segmental arches are here executed in red brick, with ashlar stones in sandstone with bas-reliefs. The ashlar stones form the termination of the pilasters. The segmental arches above the two-light windows in the panel fields are likewise made of red brick. These facades have been altered in the past at a number of places. In the interior of some halls the construction of cast iron columns with beams and riveted truss work is still exposed. A number of columns is protected by means of welded steel U-profiles fastened to each other. In the period 1985-1994 much was altered in the spatial structure of the factory halls for the sake of functionality.
On account of insufficient age, the factory halls with building numbers 5B, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16A, 16B, 16C, 17 and 22 fall outside national monument protection. The continuous facade on the Grotestraat, with above it one sawtooth roof, is in itself of monumental importance because of its unity with the remaining facade sections. The factory halls not protected nationally are on the map V-08 (01-02-1994), amended on 31 January 2002, attached to this description, distinguished in relation to the protected building components of the factory complex.
Valuation The factory halls are of general cultural, architectural historical and urban planning significance because of:
- the social and economic importance of Thomas Ainsworth and the brothers Salomonson for the development of the textile industry;
- the social and economic importance of the textile factory;
- the fact that the textile factory positively influenced the emergence and development of Nijverdal;
- the still existing sawtooth roofs, steel truss construction and details in Art Nouveau style;
- the spatial and functional coherence with the office and the boiler house;
- the prominent location of the factory halls;
- the relative integrity of parts of the exterior of the halls;
- the rarity of sawtooth roofs in Dutch industrial complexes.
