Inleiding
Vrijstaande VILLA in 1892 in Chaletstijl gebouwd, in opdracht van J. van Hasselt.De naam "Villa Mary" verwijst naar de naam van de vrouw van de opdrachtgever. In de bouwperiode bestond het spoorwegstation Zuid nog, en liep de Burgel nog langs de villa. Met het naastliggende Engelenbergziekenhuis en het voormalige Lyceum vormt de villa een beeldbepalend element dat herinnert aan de laat-negentiende eeuwse gschiedenis van dit gebied. De voordeur is vervangen door een glazen toegangsdeur.
Beschrijving
Pand op ongeveer vierkant grondplan opgetrokken op gestucadoorde plint in baksteen, met twee bouwlagen en een souterrain. De villa staat onder een afgeknot schilddak gedekt met muldenpannen; slanke dakkapellen onder zadeldak met sierspanten en pirons. Geprofileerde gootlijst, consoles. Witte gevelbanden ter hoogte van onder- en wisseldorpels van de vensters. De villa heeft op de eerste bouwlaag vensters met rondboogvormige bovenlichten; baksteendecoraties onder de onderdorpel en gestucte aanzet- en sluitstenen onder de rondboogstrekken. De verdiepingsvensters zijn rechtgesloten onder een geprofileerde segmentboog met baksteendecoraties in de boogtrommel. Aan de voor- (W) en rechter(Z) zijgevel een risalietmet hoog doorlopende gevel met wolfseind en rijk gedecoreerde sierspanten.
De entree met natuurstenen stoep bevindt zich inde voorgevel rechts naast het risaliet, in een nog iets verder naar voren springend geveldeel: de vernieuwde toegangsdeur staat iets terugliggend onder een nieuwe luifel met de oorspronkelijke smeedijzerenconsoles; boven de luifel een rondboogvormig bovenlicht met glas-in-lood en vorktracering. De rondboogvormige omlijsting van het bovenlicht heeft grote gestucte consoles. Een muizentandlijst en een gestucte geprofileerde lijst sluiten de entreepartij boven de eerste bouwlaag af.
Aan de noordelijke zijgevel is een driezijdige erker over twee verdiepingen. Aan de achterzijde een uitbouw zonder verdieping. Het interieur is grotendeels gemoderniseerd, maar bevat nog een originele schouw.

Freestanding VILLA built in 1892 in Chalet style, commissioned by J. van Hasselt. The name "Villa Mary" refers to the name of the commissioner's wife. During the building period, the South railway station still existed, and the Burgel still ran past the villa. Together with the adjacent Engelenbergziekenhuis and the former Lyceum, the villa forms a striking visual element that recalls the late-nineteenth-century history of this area. The front door has been replaced by a glazed entrance door.
Description
Building on approximately square ground plan built on plastered plinth in brick, with two storeys and a basement. The villa stands under a truncated hipped roof covered with barrel tiles; slender roof dormers under gabled roofs with ornamental rafters and finials. Profiled gutter moulding, consoles. White facade bands at the height of the under and mid-ties of the windows. The villa has on the first storey windows with semicircular-shaped fanlights; brick decorations under the lintel and plastered abutment and springer stones under the semicircular arch stretches. The floor windows are straight-headed under a profiled segmental arch with brick decorations in the arch voussoir. On the front (W) and right (S) side facade a projection with tall continuous facade with half-hipped roof and richly decorated ornamental rafters.
The entrance with natural stone stoep is located in the front facade to the right of the projection, in a slightly further projecting facade section: the renovated entrance door stands slightly recessed under a new canopy with the original wrought-iron consoles; above the canopy a semicircular-shaped fanlight with leaded glass and fork tracery. The semicircular surround of the fanlight has large plastered consoles. A dentil band and a plastered profiled moulding finish the entrance section above the first storey.
On the northern side facade is a three-sided oriel window over two storeys. On the rear a single-storey extension. The interior is largely modernised, but still contains an original fireplace.
