Inleiding
De VILLA "Burghout" dateert van ongeveer 1910 en is gebouwd in een bouwtrant met elementen van de UM 1800 stijl. De villa staat op een beeldbepalende positie aan een open ruimte in de Lyceumstraat, in de nabijheid van het voormalige Gymnasium. Bijzonder is tevens dat de tuin links naast het huis is gelegen. Het hekwerk hier is niet oorspronkelij; een aanbouw onder plat dak is sterk gewijzigd en valt buiten de bescherming. Het pand is lange tijd in gebruik geweest bij de Genie, het huidige interieur is gereconstrueerd.
Omschrijving
Pand op rechthoekig grondplan opgetrokken in machinale baksteen, onder een concaaf gewelfd, uitkragend schilddak met oranje geglazuurde pannen; pirons op de nokhoeken; hoge gemetselde schoorstenen in de zijschilden. Centraal in het voorste dakschild een opgemetselde dakkapel met gewelfde, uitkragende kroonlijst rond een meerruits segmentboogvormig venster. De gevels worden horizontaal geleed door dubbele banden in witte verblendsteen; direct onder de dakgoot muurankers. H-vensters op de eerste bouwlaag en dubbele vensters met luiken op de tweede laag, met glas-in-lood in de bovenlichten. Centraal in de voorgevel de entree in een korfboogvormige portiek, met natuurstenen geprofileerde omlijsting. Geverniste houten voordeur met bovenlicht met glas-in-lood; dito venster. Hardstenen bordes. Links (Z) in de gevel een licht gebogen erker, met daarop de borstwering van een loggia.
De zijgevels zijn gepleisterd en bevatten enkele vensters.

The VILLA "Burghout" dates from approximately 1910 and was built in a building style with elements of the circa 1800 style. The villa stands in a visually defining position at an open space on the Lyceumstraat, in the vicinity of the former Gymnasium. It is also notable that the garden lies to the left beside the house. The fencing here is not original; an extension under a flat roof is heavily altered and falls outside the protection. Description
Building on a rectangular plan constructed in machine-made brick, under a concavely vaulted, overhanging hipped roof with orange glazed tiles; ridge crockets at the roof corners; tall built-up chimneys in the side hip-roofs. Central in the front hip-roof a built-up roof dormer with vaulted, overhanging cornice around a multi-light segmental-arch window. The facades are horizontally articulated by double bands in white facing brick; directly under the roof gutter ornamental wall anchors. H-windows on the first storey and double windows with shutters on the second storey, with leaded glass in the fanlights. Central in the front facade the entrance in a basket-arch portico, with natural stone moulded surround. Varnished wooden front door with fanlight with leaded glass; likewise window. Sandstone steps. Left (S) in the facade a slightly curved oriel window, with above it the balustrade of a loggia.
The side facades are plastered and contain some windows.
