Omschrijving onderdeel 5: SALPETERMAGAZIJN (De Oude Molen 1c).
Inleiding
SALPETERMAGAZIJN, gebouwd in 1896, tijdens de eerste bouwfase van de nieuw opgerichte schietkatoen- en nitroglycerinefabriek. Het object is gelegen op het voorterrein, het niet-gevaarlijke gedeelte van de fabriek, links naast de hoofdingang volgens de negentiende-eeuwse opzet. Samen met het salpeter- en schietkatoenmagazijn en de werkplaats annex timmerwinkel vormde dit gebouw het magazijn voor de ongevaarlijke grondstoffen en voorwerpen. In een latere fase kreeg het gebouw een kantoorfunctie. Tijdens de herbestemming aan het eind van de twintigste eeuw werd aan de noordzijde van het pand een glazen corridor gerealiseerd. Hiermee werd het intern verbonden aan het salpeter- en katoenmagazijn, het gebouw met de werkplaats en timmerwinkel, en de watertoren.
Omschrijving
Het éénlaagse salpeter- en katoenmagazijn is gebouwd op rechthoekige grondslag en opgetrokken uit handvormbaksteen in kruisverband gemetseld. Het gebouw wordt bekroond door een met gesmoorde, Oudhollandse dakpannen bekleed zadeldak waarvan de nok oost-west georiënteerd is en beëindigd wordt door topgevels. Deze topgevels worden door lisenen in tweeën verdeeld en bezitten langs de dakranden een klimmend baksteenfries. De oostelijke topgevel bezit twee vensters met luiken op de eerste verdieping en openslaande deuren op de begane grond. De westelijke topgevel is voorzien van een deur. Beide langsgevels van het magazijn worden geleed door tien lisenen. Een aantal traveeën bezit een liggend venster. De noordelijke lansgevel grenst aan de glazen corridor met luifel.
Waardering
Het SALPETERMAGAZIJN is van algemeen belang:
- als historisch functioneel onderdeel van het complex Springstoffenfabriek bij Ouderkerk aan de Amstel;
- uit cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven magazijn uit de eerste fase van de negentiende-eeuwse fabriek;

Introduction
SALTPETRE MAGAZINE, built in 1896, during the first building phase of the newly established guncotton and nitroglycerin factory. The object is located on the forecourt, the non-dangerous section of the factory, to the left of the main entrance according to the nineteenth-century layout. Together with the saltpetre and guncotton magazine and the workshop and carpentry shop this building formed the magazine for non-dangerous raw materials and items. In a later phase the building received an office function. During the change of use at the end of the twentieth century a glazed corridor was created on the north side of the property. With this it was internally connected to the saltpetre and cotton magazine, the building with the workshop and carpentry shop, and the water tower.
Description
The single-storey saltpetre and cotton magazine is built on a rectangular ground plan and constructed of hand-moulded brickwork laid in English bond. The building is crowned by a gabled roof covered with aged Dutch roof tiles, of which the ridge is oriented east-west and which is finished by gable ends. These gable ends are divided in two by pilasters and possess a climbing brick frieze along the roof edges. The eastern gable end has two windows with shutters on the first floor and French doors on the ground floor. The western gable end is fitted with a door. Both long sides of the magazine are articulated by ten pilasters. A number of bays have a horizontal window. The northern long side borders the glazed corridor with canopy.
Valuation
The SALTPETRE MAGAZINE is of general importance:
- as a historically functional component of the Springstoffenfabriek complex near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel;
- from a cultural history and architectural history perspective as a well-preserved magazine from the first phase of the nineteenth-century factory;
- on account of ensemble value through the functional relationship to the other objects of the forecourt.
