Omschrijving onderdeel 4: SALPETER- EN KATOENMAGAZIJN (De Oude Molen 1b).
Inleiding
Het SALPETER- EN KATOENMAGAZIJ is gebouwd in 1903. Het object is gelegen op het voorterrein, het niet-gevaarlijke gedeelte van de fabriek, rechts naast de hoofdingang volgens de negentiende-eeuwse opzet. Tezamen met het salpetermagazijn en de werkplaats annex timmerwinkel was dit gebouw bestemd voor de opslag van ongevaarlijke grondstoffen en voorwerpen. In een latere fase kreeg het gebouw een kantoorfunctie. Tijdens de herbestemming van het complex in het laatste decennium van de twintigste eeuw werd tussen de magazijnen, de watertoren en de werkplaats annex timmerwinkel een glazen corridor gerealiseerd ten einde de gebouwen met elkaar te verbinden.
Omschrijving
Het éénlaagse magazijn is gebouwd op rechthoekige grondslag en opgetrokken uit handvormbaksteen in kruisverband. Het gebouw wordt bekroond door een met gesmoorde, Oudhollandse dakpannen bekleed zadeldak waarvan de nok oost-west georiënteerd is en dat beëindigd wordt door topgevels. Deze topgevels worden door lisenen in drie traveeën verdeeld en bezitten langs de dakranden een klimmend baksteenfries. De oostelijke topgevel kent een klein vierkant venster in de top, openslaande deuren met een brandtrap ervoor op de eerste verdieping, en een fors liggend venster op de begane grond. In de linker travee is een deur opgenomen, terwijl rechts een venster aanwezig is. De westelijke topgevel wordt aan het zicht onttrokken door een glazen doorgang naar De Oude Molen 1a, de voormalige werkplaats annex timmerwinkel. De langsgevels van het salpetermagazijn worden door lisenen in elf vakken verdeeld. Deze bezitten elk een venster of een deur. De linker langsgevel van het magazijn grenst thans aan een glazen corridor met luifel uit het eind van de twintigste eeuw.

Description of component 4: SALTPETRE AND COTTON MAGAZINE (De Oude Molen 1b).
Introduction
The SALTPETRE AND COTTON MAGAZINE was built in 1903. The object is located on the forecourt, the non-dangerous section of the factory, immediately to the right of the main entrance according to the nineteenth-century layout. Together with the saltpetre magazine and the workshop and carpentry shop this building was intended for the storage of non-dangerous raw materials and items. In a later phase the building received an office function. During the change of use of the complex in the last decade of the twentieth century a glazed corridor was created between the magazines, the water tower and the workshop and carpentry shop in order to connect the buildings to each other.
Description
The single-storey magazine is built on a rectangular ground plan and constructed of hand-moulded brickwork in English bond. The building is crowned by a gabled roof covered with aged Dutch roof tiles, of which the ridge is oriented east-west and which is finished by gable ends. These gable ends are divided into three bays by pilasters and possess a climbing brick frieze along the roof edges. The eastern gable end has a small square window at the top, French doors with a fire escape before it on the first floor, and a substantial horizontal window on the ground floor. In the left bay a door is included, while a window is present on the right. The western gable end is obscured from view by a glazed passage to De Oude Molen 1a, the former workshop and carpentry shop. The long sides of the saltpetre magazine are divided by pilasters into eleven sections. Each of these has a window or a door. The left long side of the magazine now borders a glazed corridor with canopy from the end of the twentieth century.
Valuation
The object is of general importance:
- as a historically functional component of the Springstoffenfabriek complex near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel;
- from a cultural history and architectural history perspective as a well-preserved early twentieth-century factory magazine;
