Inleiding
Rond 1880, in sobere eclectische trant, gebouwde VILLA, genaamd "Middelwijk", gesitueerd aan de westzijde van de Middenweg waarvan het door een sloot wordt gescheiden. Het pand staat op de hoek met de haaks op de Middenweg staande Schoolstraat. De villa werd in oorsprong gebruikt als onderwijzerswoning, vervolgens als burgemeesterswoning en is thans (1995) in gebruik als polderhuis.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwde villa bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder dwars schilddak waarvan de noklijn evenwijdig loopt aan de Middenweg. Op de beide nokpunten staat een vierkante schoorsteen. Het schilddak heeft zwarte Hollandse pannen. Het muurwerk is opgetrokken in rode baksteen. Ter hoogte van de verdiepingvloer loopt een gepleisterde cordonlijst over de voorgevel en de beide zijgevels. Deze drie gevels worden afgesloten door een hoofdgestel. De achtergevel heeft alleen een kroonlijst. De symmetrische voorgevel (O) telt vijf vensterassen met in de middelste as een licht risalerende middenpartij met dubbele paneeldeur voorzien van sierlijke roosters op de parterre, T-vormig schuifvenster op de verdieping en gedecoreerde dakkapel boven de kroonlijst. De overige assen bevatten schuifvensters die evenals de bovenlichten van de paneeldeur afgeronde hoeken aan de bovenzijde hebben.
De rechterzijgevel (N) en de linkerzijgevel (Z) zijn in opzet gelijk en hebben elk twee vensterassen met op parterre en verdieping T-vensters, identiek aan de vensters in de voorgevel.
De achtergevel gaat merendeels schuil achter aangrenzende bebouwing.

De villa Middelwijk, in sobere eclectische trant, is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van voorname 19de-eeuwse eclectische woonhuisarchitectuur op het platteland. Introduction
A VILLA built around 1880, in a sober eclectic style, named "Middelwijk", situated on the west side of the Middenweg from which it is separated by a ditch. The building stands on the corner with the Schoolstraat which runs at right angles to the Middenweg. The villa was originally used as a schoolmaster's residence, subsequently as a mayor's residence and is currently (1995) in use as a polder-house.
Description
A villa built on a rectangular ground plan consisting of two storeys under a transverse hipped roof whose ridge line runs parallel to the Middenweg. On both ridge points stands a square chimney. The hipped roof has black Dutch tiles. The brickwork is constructed in red brick. At the level of the upper floor a plastered cordon line runs across the front facade and both side facades. These three facades are closed off by a main cornice. The rear facade has only a cornice. The symmetrical front facade (E) has five window bays with in the central bay a slightly projecting central part with double panelled door furnished with ornamental grilles on the ground floor, T-shaped sash window on the upper floor and decorated roof dormer above the cornice. The remaining bays contain sash windows which, like the fanlights of the panelled door, have rounded corners at the top.
The right side facade (N) and the left side facade (S) are identical in layout and each have two window bays with on the ground floor and upper floor T-windows, identical to the windows in the front facade.
The rear facade is mostly concealed by adjacent buildings.
Valuation
The villa Middelwijk, in sober eclectic style, is of general importance for its cultural and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of distinguished 19th-century eclectic domestic architecture in the countryside. The villa has ensemble value as a character-defining component of the 19th-century buildings on the Middenweg.
