Ten dele onderkelderd WOONHUIS van de boerderij "Westerhem", gebouwd op rechthoekig grondplan en bestaande uit één bouwlaag onder schilddak met zwarte Hollandse pan. De beide nokpunten zijn voorzien van een gemetselde en met natuursteen gedecoreerde schoorsteen met schoorsteenkap. Het muurwerk heeft een gecementeerde plint en is daarboven opgetrokken in rode baksteen met gepleisterde decoratie. Deze decoratie bestaat uit een geblokte hoeklisenen bij de voorgevel en de centrale dakkapel, alsmede uit 'wenkbrauwen' met florale middenornamenten boven de getoogde H-vensters en het bovenlicht van de centrale deur. De achtergevel heeft geen decoratie. Het woonhuis heeft een omgaand houten hoofdgestel met gedecoreerd fries.
De symmetrische voorgevel (O) telt vijf vensterassen. De middelste as bevat de hoofdingang bestaande uit een dubbele paneeldeur met bovenlicht, te bereiken via twee hardstenen treden. Daarboven bevindt zich de dakkapel met gekoppeld en getoogd H-venster. De dakkapel heeft een flauw hellend, overstekend en haaks op de hoofdkap gericht zadeldak met zwarte Hollandse pan, gesneden windveren en gladde gootlijsten. De linkerzijgevel (Z) heeft drie schuifvensters, in vorm en decoratie identiek aan die in de voorgevel. De rechterzijgevel (N) heeft drie schuifvensters, waarvan het schuifvenster nabij de voorgevel in vorm en decoratie identiek is aan de schuifvensters in deze voorgevel. Rechts naast genoemd schuifvenster bevindt zich een smalle paneeldeur met ijzeren harnas en rechts van deze deur twee schuifvensters met T-profiel. Afgezien van het T-profiel zijn ook deze vensters in vorm en decoratie identiek aan die in de voorgevel. De merendeels gesloten achtergevel (W) heeft in het midden een uitgebouwde partij waarin zich een ingang bevindt.
Het interieur is merendeels in oorspronkelijke staat behouden gebleven en bevat onder meer stucplafonds, schouwen en houtwerk met opgeschilderd houtmotief.
Waardering
Het uit 1877 daterende, eclectische woonhuis is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als kenmerkend en gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van laat-19de-eeuwse notabelenwoning op het platteland en als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het boerderijcomplex Westerhem.

Partially cellared DWELLING HOUSE of the farmstead "Westerhem", built on a rectangular ground plan and consisting of one storey under a hipped roof with black Dutch tile. Both ridge points are provided with a mortared chimney decorated with natural stone and a chimney cap. The masonry has a cemented plinth and is built above in red brick with plastered decoration. This decoration consists of rusticated corner pilasters at the front facade and the central roof dormer, as well as eyebrows with floral central ornaments above the arched H-windows and the fanlight of the central door. The rear facade has no decoration. The dwelling house has a surrounding wooden main cornice with decorated frieze.
The symmetrical front facade (E) has five window axes. The middle axis contains the main entrance consisting of a double panelled door with fanlight, accessible via two ashlar steps. Above this is the roof dormer with coupled and arched H-window. The roof dormer has a gently sloping, projecting and at right angles to the main roof a gabled roof with black Dutch tile, carved wind braces and smooth gutter mouldings. The left side facade (S) has three sash windows, identical in form and decoration to those in the front facade. The right side facade (N) has three sash windows, of which the sash window near the front facade is identical in form and decoration to the sash windows in this front facade. To the right of the aforementioned sash window is a narrow panelled door with iron hardware and to the right of this door two sash windows with T-profile. Apart from the T-profile, these windows are also identical in form and decoration to those in the front facade. The largely closed rear facade (W) has in the middle an added section in which an entrance is situated.
The interior has been largely preserved in its original state and contains, among other things, stucco ceilings, fireplaces and woodwork with painted wood grain pattern.
Valuation
The dwelling house dating from 1877, executed in the eclectic style, is of general importance for its architectural and cultural-historical value as a characteristic and well-preserved example of a late 19th-century country gentleman's house on the rural landscape and as a historically-functional component of the farmstead complex Westerhem.
