Inleiding
Voormalige dubbele DIENSTWONING, in oorsprong behorende bij het in aanleg uit 1846-1849 daterende "Gesticht Meerenberg", sinds 1918 "Provinciaal Ziekenhuis nabij Santpoort" geheten.
De dienstwoning, welke dateert uit het vierde kwart van de 19de eeuw, werd oorspronkelijk in tweeën bewoond. Het pand bevatte volgens archiefstukken een woning voor de machinist en een woning voor de veldwachter. In latere jaren is het pand inwendig verbouwd tot één woning.
De voormalige dienstwoning ligt ten westen van de Brederodelaan schuin op de weg, net ten zuiden van de tweede ingang tot het terrein van het voormalige Provinciaal Ziekenhuis. Het ziekenhuis is in 1991 deels verplaatst naar Amsterdam.
In de detaillering vertoont de voormalige dienstwoning invloeden van het eclecticisme, onder andere neo-classicistische motieven en chalet-invloeden.
Omschrijving
In rode baksteen opgetrokken dienstwoning bestaande uit een rechthoekig hoofdvolume van één bouwlaag onder zadeldak met aan de kopse zijden iets smallere één bouwlaag hoge aanbouwen onder schuin aflopend lessenaardak. Zowel het zadeldak, waarvan de noklijn in noordwest/zuidoost richting schuin op de weg is gelegen, als de lessenaardaken zijn bekleed met grijze Hollandse pannen. De enigszins overstekende dakschilden worden zowel bij het zadeldak als de lessenaardaken ondersteund door houten schoren en zijn ter afsluiting versierd met een rondom lopende siergesneden houten lijst.
In het zuidwestelijk dakschild van het zadeldak bevindt zich een nieuwe dakkapel.
De voorgevel van het pand (N/O) bezit in het rechthoekige hoofdvolume twee identieke vensters. Deze twee vensters bestaan uit twee door een middenstijl van elkaar gescheiden schuifvensters met gedeelde bovenlichten en worden afgesloten door een fronton dat wordt gedragen door consoles. Zowel de vensters, het fronton als de consoles zijn van hout. Voorts bevinden zich in dit deel van de voorgevel een viertal ijzeren siermuurankers. In de aanbouwen ter linker- en ter rechterzijde van het hoofdvolume bevindt zich in de voorgevel een driehoekig afgesloten houten vensterpartij met draairamen.
De zuidoostelijke zijgevel bezit in de top, boven het lessenaardak van de aanbouw, een halfrond houten venster met roedenverdeling. In de zijgevel van de zuidoostelijke aanbouw bevindt zich een houten dubbel draaivenster. De noordwestelijke zijgevel heeft in de top, links naast de hier enigszins uitstekende schoorsteen, een vast zesruits houten venster. Tegen de zijgevel van de aanbouw alhier is een houten schuurtje geplaatst.
De achtergevel (Z/W) heeft in de middenpartij ter linkerzijde dubbele openslaande houten tuindeuren met smalle vensters ter weerszijden en bovenlichten met roedenverdeling. Boven deze deurpartij bevindt zich net onder de kap een dubbel zesruits houten draaivenster dat wordt afgesloten door een ijzeren sierhekwerk. De achtergevel van de noordwestelijke aanbouw bezit een deur en klein houten venster. De achtergevel van de zuidoostelijke aanbouw heeft uitsluitend een deur.
Waardering
De voormalige dienstwoning is van algemeen belang als gaaf bewaard gebleven en vroeg voorbeeld van een in eclectische bouwtrant opgetrokken dienstwoning uit het vierde kwart van de 19de eeuw, behorend bij het Provinciaal Ziekenhuis Santpoort en vanwege de ensemblewaarde met dit ziekenhuis. Daarnaast is de woning van belang vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging langs de Brederodelaan.

Description
A service dwelling constructed of red brick consisting of a rectangular main volume of one storey under a gabled roof with slightly narrower one-storey extensions at the gable ends under sloping lean-to roofs. Both the gabled roof, whose ridge line is set at an angle to the road in a northwest/southeast direction, and the lean-to roofs are covered with grey Dutch tiles. The somewhat overhanging roof slopes are supported on both the gabled roof and the lean-to roofs by wooden props and are finished around with a decorative carved wooden moulding.
In the southwest slope of the gabled roof there is a new roof dormer.
The front facade of the building (N/E) has two identical windows in the rectangular main volume. These two windows consist of two sash windows separated from each other by a central stile with shared fanlights and are crowned by a pediment supported by consoles. Both the windows, the pediment and the consoles are of wood. Furthermore, in this section of the front facade there are four ornamental iron wall anchors. In the extensions to the left and right of the main volume there is a triangular-topped wooden window unit with casement windows in the front facade.
The southeastern side gable has a semicircular wooden window with glazing bars at the top, above the lean-to roof of the extension. In the side gable of the southeastern extension there is a wooden double casement window. The northwestern side gable has a fixed six-pane wooden window at the top, to the left of the chimney protruding slightly here. Against the side gable of the extension here a wooden shed has been placed.
The rear facade (S/W) has in the central section on the left double opening wooden garden doors with narrow windows on either side and fanlights with glazing bars. Above this door unit, just below the roof, there is a double six-pane wooden casement window closed off by an ornamental iron grille. The rear facade of the northwestern extension has a door and a small wooden window. The rear facade of the southeastern extension has only a door.
Valuation
The former service dwelling is of general importance as a well-preserved and early example of a service dwelling constructed in eclectic style from the fourth quarter of the 19th century, belonging to the Provinciaal Ziekenhuis Santpoort and on account of its ensemble value with this hospital. In addition, the dwelling is important on account of its prominent position along the Brederodelaan.
