Inleiding
Huize Carex is in 1912 gebouwd in opdracht van de Drentsche Landontginning Mij, gevestigd te Rotterdam, als directiewoning bij de Griendtveense Turfstrooiselfabriek. Het ontwerp voorzag in een serre, deze is wellicht nooit uitgevoerd. De directiewoning vormt een schakelelement in de nederzetting gesticht door de Griendtsveen Turfstrooisel Maatschappij.
De bescherming betreft het exterieur en de detaillering van de gevels.
Beschrijving
Woonhuis opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een L-vormige plattegrond over twee bouwlagen onder met muldenpannen gedekte zadeldaken met wolfeinden en pironnen. In de oksel een aanbouw over twee bouwlagen onder plat dak.
In de verspringende voorgevel (N) links onder de entree met bovenlicht en een schuifvenster met drieruits bovenlicht. Op de verdieping twee schuifvensters met achtruits bovenlichten. In het dakschild een dakkapel onder lessenaardak. In het vooruitstekende deel op de begane grond twee schuifvensters met gebogen bovendorpel. Op de verdieping een T-venster met gebogen bovendorpel, gekoppeld met twee vensters in een blindnis. Onder het wolfeind een kleiner schuifvenster.
In de rechtergevel (W) aan de rechterzijde op beide verdiepingen twee schuifvensters met achtruits bovenlichten.
In de linkergevel, in het vooruitspringende deel op beide verdiepingen links een dubbelvenster met bovenlicht en rechts twee klimmende trapvensters. In de geveltop een venster met zesruits bovenlicht. In de gevel van de uitbouw op beide verdiepingen een vierruits venster met achtruits bovenlicht.
Aan de achterzijde links een serre uitbouw met centraal twee openslaande deuren onder één achtruits bovenlicht, geflankeerd door twee vensters, ieder met een zesruits bovenlicht. Op de serre een balustrade, het balkon op de verdieping wordt ontsloten door twee openslaande deuren met één drieruits bovenlicht. In de geveltop, onder het wolfeind een venster met drieruits bovenlicht. In gevel van de uitbouw op de begane grond een deur met bovenlicht en een T-venster met drieruits bovenlicht. Op beide verdiepingen een ééruits venster.

Huize Carex was built in 1912 on the instructions of the Drentsche Landontginning Mij, based in Rotterdam, as a manager's house at the Griendtveense Turfstrooiselfabriek. Description
Dwelling constructed in brick on an L-shaped floor plan over two storeys under gabled roofs covered with curved tiles with half-hipped ends and pialets. In the corner an annexe over two storeys under flat roof.
In the recessed front facade (N) on the left under the entrance with fanlight and a sash window with three-pane fanlight. On the upper storey two sash windows with four-pane fanlights. In the roof plane a roof dormer under sloping roof. In the projecting section on the ground floor two sash windows with curved lintel. On the upper storey a T-window with curved lintel, coupled with two windows in a blind recess. Under the half-hipped end a smaller sash window.
In the right facade (W) on the right side on both storeys two sash windows with four-pane fanlights.
In the left facade, in the projecting section on both storeys on the left a double window with fanlight and on the right two climbing stepped windows. In the gable top a window with six-pane fanlight. In the facade of the extension on both storeys a four-pane window with four-pane fanlight.
On the rear side on the left a conservatory extension with centrally two French doors under one four-pane fanlight, flanked by two windows, each with a six-pane fanlight. On the conservatory a balustrade, the balcony on the upper storey is accessed by two French doors with one three-pane fanlight. In the gable top, under the half-hipped end a window with three-pane fanlight. In the facade of the extension on the ground floor a door with fanlight and a T-window with three-pane fanlight. On both storeys a single-pane window.
