Inleiding
De Ned. Hervormde kerk is in 1923 gebouwd in opdracht van het bestuur der Ned. Hervormde Evangelisatie te Emmen, naar ontwerp van Jan en Theo Stuivinga uit Zeist, in traditionalistische stijl. Met name de vensters en deuren zijn in neo-Hollandse-renaissance stijl.
1951 is de kerk vergroot door de architectencombinatie Stuivinga & v.d. Horst uit Zeist/Emmen. Hierbij zijn een narthex en een extra schiptravée aangebouwd.
Het interieur verkeert nog geheel in originele staat.
De bescherming betreft het totale bouwvolume behalve de aanbouwen aan de achterzijde, het interieur behalve het moderne tochtportaal, beide inclusief de detaillering.
Beschrijving
Zaalkerk van zeven traveeën met aangebouwde consistoriekamer en toren in de oksel, opgetrokken in baksteen onder een met pannen gedekt zadeldak. In het muurwerk van kerk, consistorie en toren loopt rondom een gemetselde speklaag. In de zuidgevel bevindt zich de entree met bordes en stoep in een portiek van spits gebogen archivolten. Rechts een gevelsteen met "Jan en Theo Stuivinga, architecten". De entree bestaat uit een dubbele opgeklampte deur. Boven de entree een hoog drielicht venster met kleine roedenverdeling. In de geveltop ruitvormig siermetselwerk. Aan de dakeinden vlechtingen in het metselwerk.
De oost- en westgevel wordt geleed door steunberen op de traveescheidingen. Tussen de steunberen, behalve in de hoektraveeën, hoge vensters, die de daklijst doorbreken.
Tegen de noordgevel is onder de speklaag een aanbouw gemaakt. Boven de lijst de twee oorspronkelijke vensters.
De vierkante toren kraagt uit, direct onder de nokrand van de kerk. Onder de uitkraging zijn overhoeks waterspuwers aangebracht. De toren is afgedekt met een tentdak. In de westgevel een toegang bestaande uit een dubbele opgeklampte deur in een portiek van spits gebogen archivolten. In de zuidgevel een steen met "gebouwd in 1923".
De consistoriekamer is links aan de westgevel aangebouwd onder een zadeldak. In de langsgevels tienruits liggende vensters met kleine roedenverdeling. In de blinde topgevel met insnoering vlechtwerk.
Interieur
Het interieur is in originele staat. De kerk heeft een vlakke open houten dakstoel met schenkelspanten. De vloer heeft een helling. Preekstoel, banken en bankenplan zijn onveranderd. Het orgel en orgelkas boven de preekstoel zijn niet van waarde uit het oogpunt van monumentenzorg. Onder het balkon aan de zuidzijde is een modern tochtportaal aangebracht.

The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1923 on commission of the board of the Dutch Reformed Evangelisation in Emmen, designed by Jan and Theo Stuivinga from Zeist, in traditionalist style. In particular the windows and doors are in neo-Dutch-renaissance style.
In 1951 the church was enlarged by the architect combination Stuivinga & v.d. Horst from Zeist/Emmen. A narthex and an additional nave bay were added.
The interior is still entirely in its original state.
The protection concerns the total building volume except the annexes on the rear side, the interior except the modern draught vestibule, both including the detailing.
Description
Hall church of seven bays with attached consistory chamber and tower in the angle, constructed in brick under a tile-clad gabled roof. In the masonry of church, consistory and tower runs a rendered layer all around. In the south facade is the entrance with platform and step in a portico of pointed arched archvolts. To the right a facade stone with "Jan and Theo Stuivinga, architects". The entrance consists of a double clamped door. Above the entrance a tall three-light window with small glazing bars. In the gable top diamond-shaped decorative masonry. At the roof ends weaving in the masonry.
The east and west facades are articulated by buttresses on the bay divisions. Between the buttresses, except in the corner bays, tall windows which break through the roof line.
Against the north facade an annex is built below the rendered layer. Above the moulding the two original windows.
The square tower projects out directly below the roof ridge of the church. Below the projection corner water spouts are provided. The tower is covered with a tent roof. In the west facade an entrance consisting of a double clamped door in a portico of pointed arched archvolts. In the south facade a stone with "built in 1923".
The consistory chamber is attached to the left of the west facade under a gabled roof. In the long facades ten-light horizontal windows with small glazing bars. In the blind gable top with contraction ornamental network.
Interior
The interior is in original state. The church has a flat open wooden roof truss with rafter trusses. The floor has a slope. Pulpit, benches and bench plan are unchanged. The organ and organ case above the pulpit are of no value from the point of view of monument conservation. Below the balcony on the south side a modern draught vestibule has been installed.
