STOLP FARMHOUSE built around 1875 in regional style of the reversed West Frisian type. The farmhouse is called "Jacobshoeve" and stands on the south side of Midwouder Dorpsstraat with the ridge line parallel to the street. N.B. The original tall round chimney at the front was replaced after 1956 by the current simple example. The originally zinc-covered roof with eaves of the central projection is now covered with mastic (1994). The front door was also replaced after 1956 (situation in 1956 according to photograph from Stichting Historisch Boerderij Onderzoek). Description

Stolp farmhouse built on a rectangular ground plan with a tail section at the rear (S) and a later extension perpendicular to this tail section towards the east. Both the tail section and extension served as cattle sheds. The farmhouse has a reed-thatched hipped roof with on the front (N) a roof mirror with arch motif, at the rear a roof mirror with stepped motif (S) and a continuous pantile border above the gutter lines. The pantile-covered sections consist of black Dutch tiles, here and there alternated with red Dutch tiles. The tail section and the extension perpendicular to it have gabled roofs which, like the main roof, are mostly covered with black Dutch tiles, here and there alternated with red Dutch tiles. The brickwork is constructed in red brick. The southern wall of the threshing floor consists of roughcast boarding. The timber load-bearing structure consists of a rectangular square with tie-beam trusses. On the west side of the square is the threshing floor. Along the entire north side (front) and part of the west side of the square is the dwelling. On the east side of the square is the cattle shed of which the tail section projects to the south. Threshing floor and original cattle shed are thus in ground plan perpendicular to each other (West Frisian type). The symmetrically arranged front gable (N) has a heavy projecting central section under a shallow-sloping gabled roof that adjoins the main roof as a steep gable. The gabled roof has richly carved wind braces and collar ties. The central section contains on the ground floor the original "parlour" and on the upper storey a built-out attic room. The central projection has on ground floor and upper storey two windows with T-frames. On the ground floor these window openings are separated by a wall mullion and each window opening has a plastered eyebrow with central ornament. On the upper storey the two windows are coupled and are crowned as a pair by an eyebrow. Above the narrow string course is a plaque with the name "Jacobshoeve". The gable planes on either side of the central projection have raised wall mullions - both adjoining the central projection and at the outer corners - and a heavy cornice which is emphasised above the wall mullions. The gable plane to the right (W) of the central projection has two arched windows with T-frames, the gable plane to the left of the central projection has an arched door opening with fanlight and (renewed) front door and an arched window with T-frame. The left side (E) is largely cattle-shed wall and only in the north-east corner is the side wall of the dwelling. This section has a window with T-frame. The cattle-shed wall has narrow vertical ornamental wall anchors for anchoring the internal wall studs. High in the brickwork are arched cast-iron stable windows. The right side (W) has in the dwelling section of the wall two windows with T-frames and adjacent a small four-pane window. The brickwork has narrow vertical anchors for anchoring the internal studs. In the southwest corner this side steps back for the threshing-floor doors of which the upper door boarding cuts through the roof foot. The rear side (S) consists of a threshing-floor wall executed in roughcast boarding with six-pane windows. The eastern corner is formed by the tail section. This tail section has a gable facing south with gable top in vertical boarding. Centrally in the boarding, at the level of the attic floor, there is a hoist door. On the ground floor the gable has a door with three-pane fanlight. The brickwork of the tail section contains on all external sides high-placed and arched cast-iron stable windows. In the west wall of the tail section, however, close to the corner with the south wall, is a sash window with nine-pane sash frame. The extension placed perpendicular to the tail section towards the east consists of a rectangular volume under a gabled roof of which the ridge is lower than that of the tail section. High in the brickwork are arched stable windows of cast iron.

Valuation

The stolp farmhouse Jacobshoeve dating from 1875 is of general importance on grounds of cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of late 19th-century rural architecture. The farmhouse moreover has ensemble value as a prominent component of the well-preserved 19th-century townscape of Midwouder Dorpsstraat.
