Inleiding
Het noordelijk deel van de voormalige vestingwerken is tussen 1886 en 1894 bebouwd in één bouwstijl met voornamelijk trekken van de Hollandse Neo-Renaissance. Een van de rijkere straten in het kwartier is de Van Twickelostraat. Dit dubbele WOONHUIS is een van de drie die het beeld van de straat bepalen. Het bevindt zich samen met Van Twickelostraat 1-3 (mon.nr. 510742) in redelijk originele staat. De drie panden zijn gebouwd in 1892 naar ontwerp van W.J. Kolkert. Van het interieur is de indeling bewaard gebleven.
Omschrijving
Dubbel woonhuis op rechthoekige grondslag opgetrokken in baksteen over twee bouwlagen onder een met Lucas IJsbrandpannen gedekt afgeknot schilddak. Het pand staat op een plint, heeft een kroonlijst, een waterlijst op de verdiepingscheiding en speklagen, alle gepleisterd.
De symmetrische voorgevel (N) telt zes vensterassen, waarvan de tweede en de vijfde risaleren. De risalieten eindigen in een dakkapel onder een steil, afgeknot tentdak met siersmeedwerk op de nok. In de kapel een venster met fronton, op de deklijsten pironnen. Op de begane grond vier rondgesloten vensters. In de twee centrale assen voordeuren in een portiek. Op de verdieping vier rechtgesloten T-vormige schuifvensters onder een segmentboog. In de risalieten hebben de vensters op de begane grond een rechtgesloten profiellijst, de balkons op de verdieping bovendien een fronton.
Aan beide zijgevels is een houten erker gebouwd met een uitkragende deklijst. Op de verdieping vensters als in de voorgevel.

The northern part of the former fortifications was built between 1886 and 1894 in one building style with predominantly features of the Dutch Neo-Renaissance. One of the wealthier streets in the quarter is the Van Twickelostraat. This double DWELLING HOUSE is one of three that determine the character of the street. It is located together with Van Twickelostraat 1-3 (mon.nr. 510742) in reasonably original condition. The three buildings were built in 1892 according to a design by W.J. Kolkert. The interior layout has been preserved.
Description
Double dwelling house on rectangular ground plan built in brick over two storeys under a hipped roof covered with Lucas IJsbrand tiles. The building stands on a plinth, has a cornice, a drip moulding on the storey division and speckled bands, all rendered.
The symmetrical front facade (N) has six window axes, the second and fifth of which project. The risalits end in a roof dormer under a steep, cut-off tent roof with ornamental metalwork on the ridge. In the dormer a window with pediment, ornamental finials on the eaves. On the ground floor four rounded-topped windows. In the two central axes entrance doors in a portico. On the upper floor four straight-topped T-shaped sash windows under a segment arch. In the risalits the windows on the ground floor have a straight-topped moulding, the balconies on the upper floor additionally a pediment.
Wooden bay windows have been built on both side facades with projecting eaves. On the upper floor windows as in the front facade.
