Inleiding
Het noordelijk deel van de voormalige vestingwerken is tussen 1886 en 1894 bebouwd in één bouwstijl met voornamelijk trekken van de Hollandse Neo-Renaissance. Een van de rijkere straten in het kwartier is de Van Twickelostraat die aan één zijde bebouwd is. Dit dubbele WOONHUIS is een van de drie die het beeld van de straat bepalen. Het bevindt zich samen met Van Twickelostraat 5-7 (mon.nr. 510743) in redelijk originele staat. De panden zijn gebouwd in 1892 naar ontwerp van W.J. Kolkert. Van het interieur is de indeling bewaard gebleven.
Omschrijving
Dubbel woonhuis op rechthoekige grondslag, opgetrokken in baksteen over twee bouwlagen onder een met Lucas IJsbrandpannen gedekt afgeknot schilddak. Het pand staat op een hardstenen plint, heeft een kroonlijst, een waterlijst op de verdiepingscheiding en speklagen, alle gepleisterd.
De symmetrische voorgevel (N) telt zes vensterassen, waarvan twee in het middenrisaliet onder steekkap met tuitgevel. De geveltop heeft een schouderstuk en wordt bekroond door een rondgebogen fronton. Op de deklijsten pironnen. Op de begane grond vier rondgesloten vensters onder een rondgebogen profiellijst. In het risaliet twee voordeuren in een portiek. Op de verdieping zes rechtgesloten T-vormige schuifvensters onder een segmentboog, in het risaliet gevat in een pilasterstelling op consoles. The northern part of the former fortifications was built between 1886 and 1894 in one building style with predominantly features of the Dutch Neo-Renaissance. One of the wealthier streets in the quarter is the Van Twickelostraat which is built on one side. This double DWELLING HOUSE is one of three that determine the character of the street. It is located together with Van Twickelostraat 5-7 (mon.nr. 510743) in reasonably original condition. The buildings were built in 1892 according to a design by W.J. Kolkert. The interior layout has been preserved.
Description
Double dwelling house on rectangular ground plan, built in brick over two storeys under a hipped roof covered with Lucas IJsbrand tiles. The building stands on a hard stone plinth, has a cornice, a drip moulding on the storey division and speckled bands, all rendered.
The symmetrical front facade (N) has six window axes, two of which are in the central risalit under pitched roof with spout gable. The gable top has a shoulder piece and is crowned by a rounded pediment. Ornamental finials on the eaves. On the ground floor four rounded-topped windows under a rounded moulding. In the risalit two entrance doors in a portico. On the upper floor six straight-topped T-shaped sash windows under a segment arch, in the risalit set in a pilaster arrangement on consoles. In the gable top of the risalit two round arch windows in a pilaster arrangement with architrave.
Wooden bay windows have been built on both side facades with projecting eaves and a central pediment. On the upper floor windows as in the front facade.
