Inleiding
WOONHUIS in Um 1800-stijl dat in 1923 is gebouwd als pastorie bij de kerk op de Oude Markt in opdracht van de Hervormde Gemeente Enschede. Het huis is gebouwd naar ontwerp van de architect Huijgens en vertoont grote stilistische gelijkenis met het huis "de Wigwam" aan de Boddenkampsingel dat in 1920 is gebouwd naar een ontwerp van de architect Karel Muller. Het huis staat iets teruggerooid met de oostgevel aan de Thorbeckelaan. Een smeedijzeren hek dat om de hoek loopt in de Van Kolkstraat vormt de erfscheiding.
Omschrijving
Pand van twee bouwlagen op rechthoekige plattegrond onder met grijze Hollandse pannen gedekt afgeknot schilddak. De in bruine baksteen opgetrokken gevels worden afgesloten door een eenvoudig hoofdgestel met iets overstekende kroonlijst. De rechtgesloten zesruits schuifvensters zijn onder strekken geplaatst. De symmetrische voorgevel (O) telt vijf vensterasssen. In de middelste vensteras een dubbele paneeldeur onder bovenlichten met diagonale roedenverdeling binnen een gebeeldhouwde natuurstenen lijst. Het hoofdgestel boven de pilasters aan weerszijden van de deur wordt bekroond door een schijnbalustrade van gedraaide balusters. De natuurstenen lijst rond het verdiepingsvenster boven de ingang is versierd met gebeeldhouwde acanthusbladmotieven. In de linker zijgevel (Z) twee vensterassen. Boven de tuindeuren rechts in de achtergevel (W) een houten balkonnetje. De keukenvensters links in de gevel zijn aan de onderzijde iets ingekort. In de rechter zijgevel is aan het samengestelde kozijn het achtergelegen trappenhuis goed te herkennen.
Het sobere interieur bevat enkele oorspronkelijke interieuronderdelen waaronder het trappenhuis, deurlijsten, granitovloeren en ingebouwde kasten.

DWELLING in circa 1800 style built in 1923 as a parsonage at the church on the Oude Markt on behalf of the Reformed Church Community Enschede. The house was built to the design of architect Huijgens and shows great stylistic similarity with the house "de Wigwam" on the Boddenkampsingel which was built in 1920 to a design by architect Karel Muller. Description
Building of two storeys on a rectangular ground plan under an abated hipped roof covered with grey Dutch tiles. The facades constructed in brown brick are terminated by a simple cornice with a slightly projecting cornice. The straight-headed six-pane sash windows are placed under courses. The symmetrical front facade (E) has five window sections. In the middle window section a double panelled door under fanlights with diagonal glazing bars within a sculptured natural stone moulding. The cornice above the pilasters on either side of the door is crowned by a false balustrade of turned balusters. The natural stone moulding around the upper storey window above the entrance is decorated with sculptured acanthus leaf motifs. In the left side facade (S) two window sections. Above the garden doors on the right in the rear facade (W) a small wooden balcony. The kitchen windows on the left in the facade are shortened slightly at the base. In the right side facade the staircase at the back can be clearly recognized at the composite frame.
The restrained interior contains several original interior components including the staircase, door mouldings, terrazzo floors and built-in cabinets.
