Omschrijving
Inleiding
- A: Grote, min of meer ovale speelweide in het Van Heekpark met daaromheen een geometrisch padenstelsel (zijde Boddenkampsingel);
- B: Sportvelden ten noorden daarvan in het Van Heekpark;
- C: Landschappelijk aangelegd deel van het Van Lochemsbleekpark (Roessinghsbleekweg noordwest);
- D: Weiden in het Van Lochemsbleekpark (hoek Roessinghsbleekweg / Hengelosestraat);
- als voorbeeld van de aanleg van openbare parken door fabrikanten, zoals dat rond 1900 in zwang was;
- als goed voorbeeld van de ontwikkeling in de parkarchitectuur van het begin van de 20ste eeuw, waarbij parken werden aangelegd met daarin opgenomen sportvelden en gebouwen met sociale en culturele functies;
- als goed, gaaf en daardoor zeldzaam geworden voorbeeld van de stijl van parkaanleg in het begin van de 20ste eeuw;
- als kenmerkend voorbeeld van een parkaanleg uit het oeuvre van P.H. Wattez dat als zodanig gaaf is en daardoor zeldzaam geworden;
- vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van het oorspronkelijke ontwerp die nog goed herkenbaar zijn, i.c. de kwaliteit van de vormgeving van de verschillende onderdelen en de onderlinge inpassing waarbij van zichtlijnen en assen gebruik is gemaakt;

Description
Introduction
The PARK is landscaped with open meadows, solitary trees, tree groups, wooded sections, sports fields and various buildings and can be divided into five parts:
- A: Large, more or less oval playing meadow in the Van Heekpark with a geometric path system around it (side Boddenkampsingel);
- B: Sports fields to the north of it in the Van Heekpark;
- C: Landscaped section of the Van Lochemsbleekpark (Roessinghsbleekweg northwest);
- D: Meadows in the Van Lochemsbleekpark (corner Roessinghsbleekweg / Hengelosestraat);
- E: A wooded section with pergola as connecting zone between both parks.
A. The large oval playing meadow is completely unplanted and flat and lies approximately 0.50 metre lower. Around the playing meadow lies a semi-paved path. On the main axes and three of the diagonals of the meadow paths connect that form components of sight lines through the park. Across the meadow lies a sight axis along the longitudinal axis from southwest to northeast. To the southwest this path leads to the virtually square paved square that was laid out around 1971 after the relocation of the Boddenkampsingel. To the northeast the axis ends in a former tea house. The tea house lies approximately 0.50 metre higher than its surroundings and is separated from it by a retaining wall with a staircase positioned on the axis. Between the retaining wall and the tea house lies a gravel surface. Along both paths on both sides stands a no longer entirely complete planting of avenue trees (oak).
Some distance outside the oval path that surrounds the meadow is a ring of straight paths laid out in polygonal form. Between both paths stands a planting of various types of trees and shrubs. The western and northwestern of these paths are simultaneously part of a radial path system that emanates from an obelisk that stands to the northwest of the meadow in the extension of the short axis thereof. The most important of these paths have avenue plantings of oaks and beeches. Around the memorial a small flower bed has been laid out. To the north of it is a small playing meadow.
Along the outside of the park stands a dense planting of trees and shrubs. This continues the character of the landscape that before the park was laid out on these south and northeastern sides already gave a closed impression through hedgerows. In the eastern point next to the oval meadow lies a pétanque court with kiosk.
B. To the north of this section dominated by meadow and obelisk lies to the east a complex of tennis courts and to the west a sports field, both with a club building. The system of tennis courts has been enlarged compared to the original layout and has the club building on the side of the Minister de Savornin Lohmanlaan. The sports field to the west of the playing meadow has an elongated club building along the southern long side. The northwestern corner of the park on the Roessinghsbleekweg is formed in this section by a non-original car park.
The different sections of the park still reflect something of the character of the landscape before the layout. At the site of the oval meadow was pasture, bounded on the southeast side by a strip of arable land with a hedgerow. Also at the site of the sports field was a meadow, while the tennis court partly lies on a strip of heath that lay along the northeastern boundary of the site.
C. To the west of the park layout and south of the sports field lies the Van Lochemsbleekpark with a landscaped park section with curved paths, pond, undulations and a planting consisting of tree groups and solitary trees (predominantly deciduous species). This section is, with the exception of a small part on the southwest side, enclosed by woodland planting. In this park section stands a memorial to the Belgian refugees who were accommodated in Enschede and the surrounding area between 1914 and 1918. The villa stands approximately on the border of this park section and the meadows located to the west thereof. Around the villa lies a small private garden. Further to the west against the Roessinghsbleekweg lies the former nursery-man's house with private garden.
D. The two meadows in the corner of the Hengelosestraat and the Roessinghsbleekweg are separated by a semi-paved path to the Hengelosestraat. On the southeast side stands a closed planting of trees and shrubs among which a shed. This section of the park, which is a later addition, forms the current main entrance to the Van Lochemsbleekpark.
E. Between the Van Heekpark and the Van Lochemsbleekpark lies a connecting zone which is set up as a closed forest with deciduous and coniferous trees and a closed shrub layer of various species. Before the parks were connected with each other, this section formed a back area for both parks. In the middle of this section lies a pergola of hornbeam that serves as the most important connection between both parks and which was laid out in 1929 in the southeast section of the woodland of the Van Lochemsbleekpark. In this park the pergola leads to an open area with a ring-shaped path in which a lawn with a round flower bed in the centre. On either side of the pergola also lie paths through the woodland that connects the parks.
The path system in the Van Heekpark is based on an oval inner ring, a polygonal outer ring and radials between them; in general the paths are straight and angular, in contrast to those in the Van Lochemsbleekpark. The winding path layout, in which the path through the pergola is virtually the only straight line, emanates here from a small inner ring (path, lawn and flower bed) and a large outer ring that lies just inside the forest edges.
The G.J. van Heekpark, laid out in 1918 to the design of P.H. Wattez, and the Van Lochemsbleekpark, arising from a villa garden, are of cultural-historical and garden-historical significance:
- as an example of the development of public parks by manufacturers, as was customary around 1900;
- as a good example of the development in park architecture of the beginning of the 20th century, in which parks were laid out with sports fields and buildings with social and cultural functions incorporated within them;
- as a good, intact and therefore rare example of the style of park layout at the beginning of the 20th century;
- as a characteristic example of a park layout from the oeuvre of P.H. Wattez that is intact as such and therefore has become rare;
- because of the aesthetic qualities of the original design which are still clearly recognisable, namely the quality of the design of the various components and their mutual integration whereby use was made of sight lines and axes;
- as a rare example of the combination of the private garden at a villa with the public park which was thereby considerably enriched.
