Inleiding
WARENHUIS voor Vroom en Dreesman naar ontwerp van J. Kuyt uit de jaren twintig, ontworpen in functionalistische stijl. Het pand is opgebouwd uit geometrische bouwvolumes. Eveneens kenmerkend voor de stijl is het metselwerk in Noors kettingverband. Puien en interieur van de begane grond zijn aangepast aan de huidige winkelfunctie. Op de tweede verdieping is het interieur gemoderniseerd, evenals het centrale trappenhuis, waarbij de ruimte-indeling en de vensters met glas-in-lood onaangetast zijn gebleven.

Warenhuis opgetrokken in gele baksteen vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over drie bouwlagen met plat dak.
Midden in het langwerpige bouwvolume bevindt zich het centrale trappenhuis dat één bouwlaag hoger opgaat. De volumes aan weerszijden van het trappenhuis hebben een eigen gevelindeling. Het oostelijk deel had oorspronkelijk een winkelfunctie, het westelijk een expeditie- en kantoorfunctie. Beide volumes worden beëindigd door een halfronde hoekrisaliet in de kopse gevels.
De originele vensters zijn nog aanwezig, behalve op de begane grond. Alle originele kozijnen zijn van staal.
De winkelentree bevindt zich overhoeks op het zuidoosten. De oostgevel heeft twee hoekrisalieten. In het halfronde linker risaliet op beide verdiepingen een horizontale band van vensters, gescheiden door stenen kolommen. De banden lopen door in de zuidgevel. Het vierkante rechter risaliet is geheel van glas, hier bevindt zich een trappenhuis.
Op de eerste verdieping een balkon over de volle breedte tussen de risalieten. De vensters op de verdieping lopen over twee bouwlagen.
Het rechter gedeelte van de zuidgevel heeft een geknikte rooilijn. Op de begane grond de gemoderniseerde winkelpui. Op beide verdiepingen bandvensters. De vensterstrook op de eerste verdieping wordt beeindigd door een erkerpartij. In de bovenlichten glas-in-lood. Het centrale trappenhuis wordt geflankeerd door risalieten op de verdiepingen met bovenin een rond venster. Licht treedt toe via vijf rondgesloten hoge vensters over twee bouwlagen. Boven ieder venster, in de vierde bouwlaag een rond venster. Alle vensters met glas-in-lood. In het linker gedeelte van de zuidgevel bevonden zich oorsponkelijk de kantoren. Dit deel is eveneens sterk horizontaal geleed met vensterstroken op alle verdiepingen. De stroken op de eerste en tweede verdieping lopen door in de hoekrisaliet van de westgevel. Centraal in het linkerdeel een met koper beklede erker over twee bouwlagen voor het trappenhuis. Links hiervan op de begane grond vijf ronde vensters.
In de westgevel bevinden zich alle expeditie ontsluitingen. Op de begane grond rechts de personeelsingang. Het overige deel van de begane grond heeft een moderne pui gekregen. Op de eerste verdieping een strook vensters met links van het midden laaddeuren en een balkon ter breedte van drie vensterassen. Op de tweede verdieping rechts zeven ronde vensters, een hoge dubbele laaddeur met balkon en een strook vensters.

DEPARTMENT STORE for Vroom and Dreesman according to a design by J. Kuyt from the nineteen twenties, designed in functionalist style. The building is composed of geometric building volumes. Also characteristic of the style is the brickwork in Norwegian bond. The shop fronts and interior of the ground floor have been adapted to the current retail function. On the second storey the interior has been modernised, as well as the central staircase, whereby the spatial layout and the leaded-glass windows have remained untouched.

Department store constructed in yellow brick from a rectangular floor plan over three storeys with flat roof.
In the middle of the elongated building volume is the central staircase which rises one storey higher. The volumes on either side of the staircase have their own facade arrangement. The eastern part originally had a retail function, the western part an expedition and office function. Both volumes are terminated by a semi-circular corner risalit in the end facades.
The original windows are still present, except on the ground floor. All original frames are of steel.
The shop entrance is located diagonally on the southeast. The east facade has two corner risalits. In the semi-circular left risalit on both storeys a horizontal band of windows, separated by stone columns. The bands continue in the south facade. The square right risalit is entirely of glass, this is where a staircase is located.
On the first storey a balcony over the full width between the risalits. The windows on the storey span two storeys.
The right section of the south facade has a broken roofline. On the ground floor the modernised shop front. On both storeys band windows. The window strip on the first storey is terminated by an oriel section. In the fanlights leaded-glass. The central staircase is flanked by risalits on the storeys with a round window above. Light enters via five enclosed tall windows spanning two storeys. Above each window, in the fourth storey a round window. All windows with leaded-glass.
