Inleiding
KOETSHUIS ANNEX WOONHUIS uit 1889 met een zeer rijk gedecoreerde voorgevel in neo-renaissancestijl. Het bestaande pand werd in opdracht van B.W. Blijdenstein verbouwd naar een ontwerp van de architect G. Beltman. De indeling van het pand is sterk gewijzigd; er is een doorbraak gemaakt naar het naastliggende pand. Ook is aan de achterzijde een forse aanbouw geplaatst, waardoor de oorspronkelijke achtergevel niet meer aanwezig is. Het pand maakt onderdeel uit van de gesloten gevelwand van de gebogen Walstraat in het oude centrum van Enschede.
Omschrijving
Pand van één bouwlaag onder met grijze muldenpannen gedekt zadeldak. De in rode baksteen opgetrokken voorgevel (W) wordt horizontaal geleed door een hoge gepleisterde sokkel met plint en waterlijst en gepleisterde speklagen. Op de begane grond een centrale dubbele glasdeur onder bovenlicht met aan weerszijden T-vensters. Onder de vensters is de iets terugliggende sokkel versierd met vierkante panelen. De segmentbogen boven de vensters en deur hebben gepleisterde aanzetstenen met diamantkoppen en een decoratieve sluitsteen. De boogtrommels zijn gevuld met metselmozaïeken van gele, rode en grijsblauwe verblendsteen. De speklaag boven de begane grond gaat in de afgeknotte geveltop over in een klimmend keperboogfries onder de geprofileerde natuurstenen deklijsten. Het hoofdgestel met zinken gevelbekroning wordt ondersteund door decoratieve deels gepleisterde pilasters op natuurstenen kraagstukken met cannelures en een tandlijstje.
De gevelbekroning bestaat uit een jaartalsteen (1889 in reliëf) tussen voluutornamenten onder een fronton met segmentboog waarop een obelisk met diamantkop. De pilasters zijn boven het hoofdgestel bekroond met kleine afgeknotte zinken obelisken. Het tweelichtvenster in de geveltop heeft een decoratief gepleisterd deelzuiltje onder een met gepleisterde aanzet- en sluitstenen opgesierde rondboog. In de boogtrommel is het metselwerk van rode, gele en grijsblauwe verblendsteen uitgevoerd in een geometrisch patroon.

COACH HOUSE WITH ANNEX DWELLING from 1889 with a very richly decorated front facade in neo-Renaissance style. The existing building was remodelled on the instructions of B.W. Blijdenstein according to a design by architect G. Beltman. The layout of the building has been substantially altered; an opening has been made towards the adjacent building. A substantial extension has also been added to the rear, as a result of which the original rear facade no longer exists. The building forms part of the closed facade wall of the curved Walstraat in the old centre of Enschede.
Description
Building of one storey below covered with a grey pantile gabled roof. The front facade (W) built in red brick is horizontally articulated by a high plastered plinth with skirting and drip moulding and plastered bands. On the ground floor a central double glazed door under fanlight with T-shaped windows on either side. Below the windows the slightly recessed plinth is decorated with square panels. The segmental arches above the windows and door have plastered voussoirs with diamond heads and a decorative keystone. The arch barrels are filled with ornamental brickwork of yellow, red and grey-blue facing brick. The band above the ground floor transitions in the truncated gable top into a rising herringbone arch frieze under the profiled natural stone cornices. The main cornice with zinc gable coping is supported by decorative partly plastered pilasters on natural stone corbels with fluting and a dentil moulding.
The gable coping consists of a date stone (1889 in relief) between scroll ornaments under a pediment with segmental arch on which an obelisk with diamond head. The pilasters are crowned above the main cornice with small truncated zinc obelisks. The two-light window in the gable top has a decorative plastered half-column below a semicircular arch decorated with plastered voussoirs and keystone. In the arch barrel the brickwork is executed in red, yellow and grey-blue facing brick in a geometric pattern.

Former coach house of cultural, architectural and urban planning significance because of:
