Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The object consists of a RESIDENTIAL HOUSE and a WAREHOUSE, connected to each other by means of a storage room. The whole was built in 1937 on the orders of Tj. v.d. Meer in Interwar architecture, designed by the architects L. van Houten and J. Bosma of Bosma's architects' office in Drachten and Heerenveen. The residential house with warehouse is located on the corner of the K.R. Poststraat and the Leliestraat, in the extension that came about within the framework of the street plan of 1925 by K.R. Post. The gable of the residential house faces the K.R. Poststraat. The warehouse, on the north side at the rear of the residential house, is oriented towards the Leliestraat. The house and warehouse are situated almost directly on the public road: a small hedge and a terrace with some shrubs separate the house from the street. The entrance to the residential house is on the west gable in the Leliestraat, as are the garage doors of the warehouse. A tiled path to the north of the warehouse leads to a modest garden at the rear of the house. Originally a wholesale business for bicycles was established in the complex. The warehouse is now used as storage space.
Description
The residential house of two storeys is realised on a rectangular ground plan. The overhanging gabled roof is covered with black smoked Romanesque tiles and has a gutter on corbels. In the centre of the ridge is a brick chimney. The external brickwork consists of common bricks with recessed horizontal mortar joints and flush vertical joints, on a mortar-bed of sintered bricks. The windows, partly of iron, almost all have a washed gravel concrete lintel and a brick sill. The windows are partly fitted with secondary frames and some leaded glass windows have been replaced. In the south gable is a trapezium-shaped bay window on the ground floor, the leaded glass side lights of which have been replaced. Next to the bay is a small leaded glass window. On the first floor two windows, partially fitted with leaded glass; in the gable a round-headed window with glazing bars under a round arch. The entrance on the west gable is located in the recess under a continuous roof plane; in front of it is a two-step brick stoep. The varnished wooden door has three frosted glass panes with ornamental ironwork; next to the entrance is a leaded glass window; on either side of the entrance a brick planter. Above the wooden canopy is a round-headed window with glazing bars under a round arch. Next to the entrance the west gable has a double wooden terrace door and a single-pane window; on the first floor is a leaded glass window. The east gable is divided by four rectangular windows, partly fitted with leaded glass. In the north gable of the house, at the location of the stairwell, are leaded glass windows with striking orange, blue and yellow coloured motifs. These recur in the side lights of the wooden door to the scullery, the connecting element between residential house and warehouse. On this brick built volume of one storey is a drying platform.
The warehouse of two storeys is built on a rectangular ground plan. The overhanging gabled roof is covered with black smoked Romanesque tiles. The external brickwork consists of common bricks with deeply recessed horizontal mortar joints and flush vertical joints and iron corner profiles, on a mortar-bed of sintered bricks. The iron multi-pane windows all have a gravel concrete lintel and a brick sill. The front gable is dominated by two wooden garage doors set back into the gable; on the first floor are two fifteen-pane windows. In the gable is a round-headed window as in the residential house. The side gables are fitted with windows as on the front gable, supplemented with a steel hoist beam with wooden door on the north side and a four-light roof dormer on the south gable.
The interior of residential house and warehouse is virtually unchanged as regards layout and detailing.
