Omschrijving complexonderdeel 1

Description of complex component 1

The COUNTRY HOUSE Molenbosch was built on a locally elevated terrain, formed by earth that was excavated when digging the winding pond. The house has a rectangular floor plan and is two storeys high under a hipped roof covered with slate tiles in running bond, on which a dense balustrade is placed. Behind the balustrade is a roof light that illuminates the stairwell. All facade sides are provided with a plinth. The front facade on the southwest side is five window bays wide. In the middle of the facade is in the first storey an integral porch with entrance section three window bays wide in which tall double, three-light French doors with fanlights are placed. On either side of the windows is a pilaster with flat shaft. In the side walls of the porch are rectangular, blind niches with rocaille cartouches. In the ceiling of the porch are three sunken panels, in which a rosette is set. The architrave of the porch is supported by two fluted Doric columns. On either side of the porch is a double French window with fanlight. In the upper lintels of the windows in the first storey are leaf motifs. In the second storey a total of five windows with six-pane sash windows are placed. The windows have a wooden profiled surround. The facade is enriched with coupled pilasters over two storeys (colossal order) which are placed beside the porch and at the corners of the facade. Beside the windows are wall panels in fair-faced brickwork (English bond) which in the first storey are finished with a natural stone capital at the level of the upper lintels. These capitals support a continuous flat cordon moulding. At the level of the lower lintels of the windows in the second storey a second cordon moulding is placed. The facade is finished with a broad profiled cornice, which is supported by the aforementioned colossal pilasters. The rear facade, on the northeast side, is conformable to the front facade as regards its arrangement and windows. Because the terrain here is lower than at the front, the basement is visible. The basement facade beneath the coupled columns is plastered and functions as basement. Between the basements is a three-light window with wall panels. In front of the three middle window bays a wooden veranda under a flat roof is constructed. The floor of the veranda is situated between the basement storey and the first storey. The construction of the veranda is characterised by open wooden posts, in which strips in lattice form are placed. The posts support two half, likewise open-worked round arches with strips that meet in the middle. The spandrels are decorated with fretwork. Above this a wooden profiled cornice is set. Beneath the veranda is the entrance to the basement storey.

The side facades have an identical construction to the front and rear facades: five window bays wide with in the first storey windows in which tall double French windows with fanlights are set. In the second storey are windows with sash windows, conformable to the windows in the front facade. Between the first and second bay and the fourth and fifth bay is a single pilaster over two storeys placed. The floor plan arrangement is still original. Behind the integral porch is the vestibule which gives access to the central hall with stairwell. The hall is richly detailed with marble door surrounds, stucco work in the ceiling with rosette motifs, volute consoles and pilasters in neo-classical style. The first floor has a spacious stair hall with detailing conformable to the hall on the ground floor. On the attic storey the heavy, pine beam construction of the roof is visible. Here are still three former servant's rooms complete with bed alcoves.

Valuation of complex component 1

The country house is of architectural-historical value as an example of an intact and richly detailed country house, both as regards the exterior and the interior in neo-classical style and as part of the oeuvre of J.D. Zocher jr., as well as of cultural-historical value and ensemble value as part of the country estate Molenbosch.
