Omschrijving complexonderdeel 1

Description of complex component 1

The COUNTRY HOUSE is located on the west side of the complex, on the higher part of the estate.

The original country house comprised only the middle section of the current building. The 1925 extension consists of a symmetrical addition to the front with a bay on either side with risalits, thereby almost doubling the volume of the building.

The building is constructed on an L-shaped ground plan and comprises two storeys under a hipped roof currently covered with bitumen, crowned in the middle by a bell tower and at the corners by chimneys. The roof slopes are interrupted by roof dormers. All windows are fitted with Venetian blinds.

The facade on the garden side (east) is symmetrically laid out and consists of a central section with two risalits on either side. Against the facade in the middle is a three-sided veranda with balcony. This balcony is supported by Tuscan columns. In the first storey there are three French doors. On either side of these is a composite window frame containing French doors with side lights and fanlights. In the second storey are two pairs of balcony doors with cross windows flanking them. The projecting sections are provided over the two storeys with a three-sided bay window containing five-light windows. In front of the facade is a terrace.

The west facade is extended forward on the left for a number of metres. Here is a three-sided bay window, with in the second storey a balcony with French doors fitted with fanlights, as well as two cross windows. The main entrance is located in an extension placed against the recessed building section. The door with side lights is provided with a canopy above which is a segmental arch fanlight. The extension serves as a balcony in the second storey and is accessible via French doors with fanlight. The facade further contains cross windows, an oval window and two-light windows. Against the south facade is a veranda over its full width, resting on coupled Tuscan columns. The originally open veranda is now glazed in. The roof serves as a balcony and is accessible from the second storey by two pairs of French doors with side lights and fanlights. The north facade is regularly laid out with predominantly cross windows. The interior layout is partly original. On the ground floor the rooms are still largely original in layout and detailing. The rooms are fitted with wooden wall panelling. In various rooms are furthermore fireplaces with wooden casings. The wooden staircase is a central element in the hall. In the living room is a built-in space with cupboards.

Valuation of complex component 1

The building is of cultural-historical value as an example of a more recent country estate; it is of architectural-historical value as an example of a country house in traditionalist style, because of its building history and place in the oeuvre of architect J.W. Hanrath.

The country house is of ensemble value as the main component of the country estate, together with the garden and the wooded layout.
