Inleiding
In 1900 naar ontwerp van de Leidsche gemeentearchitect J.W. Schaap in ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant uitgevoerd POMPGEBOUW ten behoeve van het door de Leidsche Drinkwatermij gestichte duinwaterwinningcomplex.
Omschrijving
Eénlaags pompgebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond onder samengesteld dak, bestaande uit twee sheddaken, twee platte daken en een schilddak. De dakschilden zijn gedekt met zwarte kruispannen. Houten gootlijst op klossen. De in baksteen opgetrokken gevels worden vertikaal geleed door lisenen en zijn voorzien van een gedeeltelijk in rode baksteen uitgevoerde siermetselrand (met muizetand) onder de goot.
Rondboogvormige achtruitsvensters onder rondboog, met in rode baksteen uitgevoerde aanzet- en sluitstenen. Vensters voorzien van ijzeren roeden en hardstenen waterdorpels. Opgeklampte houten deuren met meerruitsbovenlicht.
Voorgevel (noord): links (onder gedeelte met sheddak) midden een venster. Rechts daarnaast (onder plat dak) deur met halfrond vierruitsbovenlicht onder rondboog. Rechts daarnaast een risalerend gedeelte (onder schilddak) met in het midden een dubbele deur met segmentboogvormig vierruitsbovenlicht onder segmentboog. Rechts daarvan (onder plat dak) een gevel met een venster in het midden.
Zijgevel (west): drie vensterassen, bestaande uit drie halve vijfruitsradvensters onder rondboog. Het schilddak wordt aan deze kant doorbroken door een rechthoekig bakstenen volume onder een uitkragende betonnen plaat. Links van dit volume een bakstenen schoorsteen.
Achter gevel (zuid): Van links naar rechts zes vensterassen bestaande uit een venster, een deur onder hardstenen latei met daarboven een halfrond tweeruitsvenster onder rondboog, een dichtgemetselde vensteropeninig met een vierkant ijzeren rooster in het midden, een zesruitsvenster en twee vensters.
Zijgevel (oost): drie vensteropeningen, waarvan de middelste is dichtgemetseld. De top en de uiteinden van de sheddaken zijn afgedekt met natuurstenen dekplaten.
Interieur: bevat nog een aantal waardevolle machines , waaronder een dieselmotor met generator, een vacuümpompje en een horizontale waaierpomp. De dakconstructie wordt met trekstangen bijeengehouden.
Waardering
Het pompgebouw van het duinwaterwinningcomplex van de voormalige Leidsche Duinwaterleidingmij is van algemeen belang wegens bouwhistorische en typologische waarde vanwege de gaafheid in hoofdvorm, detaillering en materiaalgebruik van zowel het in- als het exterieur en vanwege de nog aanwezige machines.
Het pompgebouw heeft voorts ensemblewaarde als historisch-functioneel en beeldondersteunend onderdeel van het complex.

Single-storey pump building on rectangular plan under composite roof, consisting of two shed roofs, two flat roofs and a hipped roof. The roof sections are covered with black deck tiles. Wooden gutter board on brackets. The facades constructed in brick are vertically divided by pilasters and are provided with a partially in red brick executed ornamental brick band (with mice-tooth pattern) under the gutter.
Round-arched eight-pane windows under round arch, with voussoirs and keystones executed in red brick. Windows provided with iron bars and sandstone drip mouldings. Fastened wooden doors with multi-pane fanlight.
Front facade (north): on the left (under section with shed roof) in the middle a window. To the right of that (under flat roof) door with semicircular four-pane fanlight under round arch. To the right of that a projecting section (under hipped roof) with in the middle a double door with segment-arched four-pane fanlight under segment arch. To the right of that (under flat roof) a facade with a window in the middle.
Side facade (west): three window bays, consisting of three semicircular five-pane radial windows under round arch. The hipped roof is broken at this side by a rectangular brick volume under a projecting concrete plate. To the left of this volume a brick chimney.
Rear facade (south): From left to right six window bays consisting of a window, a door under sandstone lintel with above it a semicircular two-pane window under round arch, a bricked-up window opening with a square iron grille in the middle, a six-pane window and two windows.
Side facade (east): three window openings, of which the middle one is bricked up. The top and the ends of the shed roofs are covered with natural stone coping plates.
Interior: contains a number of valuable machines, including a diesel motor with generator, a vacuum pump and a horizontal centrifugal pump. The roof structure is held together with tie rods.
Valuation
The pump building of the dune water extraction complex of the former Leidsche Duinwaterleidingmij is of general significance on account of construction-historical and typological value on account of the integrity in main form, detailing and material use of both the interior and the exterior and on account of the still present machines.
The pump building furthermore has ensemble value as a historically-functional and visually-supporting component of the complex.
