Een evenwijdig langs de oprijlaan gelegen POORTGEBOUW op U-vormige plattegrond van één bouwlaag onder een samengesteld zadeldak. Op de dakschilden zijn enkele dakkapellen onder schilddakje gezet. Het koetshuis heeft een asymmetrische opzet waarbij de poort rechts van de middenas is gesitueerd. De poort kan door middel van een dubbele houten deur worden afgesloten. De poort wordt door een licht risalerend bouwvolume van één as breed geaccentueerd en heeft een tweede bouwlaag onder een schilddak waarvan de nok haaks op het hoofdvolume staat. De vleugels zijn naar de oprijlaan gekeerd.
De in baksteen uitgevoerde gevels zijn voorzien van roedenvensters met schuif- en draairamen met luiken die onregelmatig geplaatst zijn. De kort zijden van de vleugels hebben een trapgevelbeëindiging gekregen en zijn voorzien van sierankers. De gevelindeling is nagenoeg origineel. Belangrijkste wijzigingen zijn de verbreding van de voormalige koetsdeuren, links en rechts van de poort. Ook in de achter- en zijgevels is de vensterindeling op sommige plaatsen gewijzigd. Bouwsporen zijn zichtbaar.
De bescherming van het poortgebouw richt zich uitsluitend op het exterieur.
Waardering
Het poortgebouw van de buitenplaats Zonheuvel is van architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een poortgebouw alsmede van ensemblewaarde in relatie tot het landhuis.

Description of complex component 2
A GATEHOUSE running parallel to the drive on a U-shaped plan of one storey under a composite gabled roof. On the roof slopes are a few roof dormers with hipped rooflets. The coach house has an asymmetrical layout with the gate positioned to the right of the central axis. The gate can be closed by means of a double wooden door. The gate is accentuated by a slightly projecting building volume one bay wide and has a second storey under a hipped roof whose ridge runs perpendicular to the main volume. The wings face the drive.
The brick-built facades are provided with glazed windows with sash and casement windows with shutters irregularly placed. The short sides of the wings have stepped gable endings and are provided with ornamental wall anchors. The facade arrangement is virtually original. The most significant alterations are the widening of the former coach doors, left and right of the gate. The window arrangement in the rear and side facades has also been altered in some places. Building traces are visible.
The protection of the gatehouse is directed exclusively at the exterior.
