Inleiding
Nabij het staion gelegen pand, gesticht in 1908-1909 als HOTEL/CAFE/RESTAURANT voor de heer G. Stahl naar ontwerp van de Meppeler architect P. Janzen en uitgevoerd door aannemer D. van Dijk. Het is opgetrokken in een Art-Nouveaustijl. Van belang is ook het interieur van hal/trappenhuis.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand pand oude twee bouwlagen en gedekt door een zadeldak belegd met rode muldenpan; overstek met een geprofileerde gootlijst die aan de langs zijden wordt gedragen op opengewerkte en van houtsnijwerk voorziene klossen. Opbouw met gepleisterde plint (grijs) en witgepleisterde gevels; cordonlijst en banden. Voorgevel Art-Nouveau-entree: in hoefijzervormige omlijsting (waarin een monogram van G. Stahl) geplaatste entree; stoep, hardstenen onderdorpel en neuten; dubbel openslaande deur met gebogen kalf; zij- en bovenlichten met gebogen bovendorpel; bovenlichten met verticale roeden. Boven de omlijsting staat in bijpassende typografie Hotel. Links van de entree een vijf traveeën brede houten serre op gemetselde basis en gepleisterde plint. Per travee van beneden naar boven een strook kleine ruitjes, groot raam met middenstijl en bovenlicht met verticale roeden. De serre is voorzien van een geprofileerde daklijst met opengewerkte en van snijwerk voorziene klossen. Op de serre een eenvoudig houten hekwerk. Verdieping met rechtgesloten vensters waarboven een boogveld. Vensters met dubbel openslaande ramen of terrasdeuren met zijlichten; bovenlichten met verticale roeden. Fries in de topgevel met tekst "Hotel en café-restaurant Neuf". Topgevel met imitatievakwerk; drie T-vensters met verticale roeden in bovenlicht. Boven in de top een tweeledig halfrond venster met verticale roeden. Asymmetrische noordgevel met links een hoefijzervormige omlijsting en een paneeldeur met smeedijzeren sierhek en bovenlicht; T-vensters met verticale roeden in bovenlicht. Westelijke gevel met vergelijkbare openingen. De zuidelijke gevel is eveneens vergelijkbaar, maar bevat ook twee keldervensters met diefijzers.
INTERIEUR. De wanden van de hal zijn over de volle hoogte betegeld met geglazuurde tegels, hoofdzakelijk gebroken wit maar met een blauwe plint en een decoratieve band op ooghoogte alsmede onder het plafond (groen/turquoise; Jugendstil-motief en rood). Cassetteplafond.
Waardering
Cafe Neuf is van cultuurhistorisch belang vanwege de functionele ontwikkeling rondom het station, van architectuurhistorische betekenis vanwege het ontwerp, de vormgeving en het materiaalgebruik alsmede van stedenbouwkundig belang in het stationsgebied (onderdeel van een waardevol stadsgezicht).

Detached building with two storeys and covered by a gabled roof tiled with red curved tiles; overhang with a profiled drip moulding carried at the side elevations on openwork brackets with carved woodwork. Construction with plastered plinth (grey) and whiteplastered facades; string course and bands. Front facade Art Nouveau entrance: entrance placed in a horseshoe-shaped frame (containing a monogram of G. Stahl); step, hard stone threshold and news; double hinged door with curved leaf; side and fanlights with curved upper threshold; fanlights with vertical glazing bars. Above the frame stands in matching typography Hotel. To the left of the entrance a five-bay wide wooden conservatory on a masonry base and plastered plinth. Per bay from bottom to top a strip of small panes, large window with middle stile and fanlight with vertical glazing bars. The conservatory is provided with a profiled cornice with openwork and carved brackets. Above the conservatory simple wooden railings. First floor with straight-sided windows above which a lunette. Windows with double hinged windows or terrace doors with side lights; fanlights with vertical glazing bars. Frieze in the gable with text "Hotel en café-restaurant Neuf". Gable with imitation half-timbering; three T-windows with vertical glazing bars in fanlight. Above at the peak a two-part semicircular window with vertical glazing bars. Asymmetrical north facade with on the left a horseshoe-shaped frame and a panel door with wrought iron ornamental railing and fanlight; T-windows with vertical glazing bars in fanlight. Western facade with comparable openings. The southern facade is likewise comparable, but also contains two cellar windows with burglar bars.
INTERIOR. The walls of the hall are tiled over their full height with glazed tiles, mainly off-white but with a blue plinth and a decorative band at eye level as well as below the ceiling (green/turquoise; Jugendstil motif and red). Coffered ceiling.
