Inleiding
Gebouwd als dubbel landhuis in 1926 in een kubistisch expressionistische stijl naar ontwerp van G. Otten Jzn. Het is markant gelegen op de hoek van de Parklaan-Wilhelminapark en markeert de overgang naar de twintigste eeuwse bebouwing aan het park. Het pand heeft op onderdelen wijzigingen ondergaan.
Omschrijving
Op onregelmatige grondslag gebaseerd en in baksteen opgetrokken dubbel landhuis gedekt door een plat dak. Kenmerkend zijn de in- en uitspringende bouwvolumes waarbij naast verhoogde gevelvlakken, erkers en balkons ook de terras-ommuringen een rol spelen. Het horizontale lijnenspel wordt geaccentueerd door betonnen slabs en een uitkragende platte daklijst op consoles. De verticaliteit ontstaat door de verhoogde en uitspringende gevelvlakken en door de oorspronkelijke gevelindeling met vensters voorzien van zwaar kozijnhout; deels met glas-in-lood bovenlichten.
Waardering
Dubbel landhuis van architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de vormgeving, het materiaalgebruik en de markante ligging in een waardevol stadsgezicht. Tevens van belang voor het oeuvre van Otten. Voor Drentse begrippen zeldzaam.

Description
Based on an irregular ground plan and constructed in brick, a double country house covered by a flat roof. Characteristic are the projecting and recessed building volumes where in addition to raised facade surfaces, bay windows and balconies the terrace enclosures also play a role. The horizontal line play is accentuated by concrete slabs and a projecting flat roof edge on corbels. The verticality is created by the raised and projecting facade surfaces and by the original facade arrangement with windows provided with heavy frame timber; partly with leaded glass fanlights.
Valuation
Double country house of architectural-historical and urban planning importance by reason of the design, the material use and the prominent location in a valuable urban scene. Also of importance for Otten's oeuvre. Rare for Drentian standards.
