Inleiding
Het in 1894 voor de houthandelaar D.H. Wicherson van stoomzagerij "de Eikel" gebouwde woonhuis is opgetrokken in een eclectische stijl. Het is gebouwd op de voormalige, in de jaren zeventig van de 19e eeuw geslechte stadswallen en sluit de gesloten gevelwand aan de even zijde van de Kornputsingel af. Het pand wordt momenteel gebruikt als kantoor en staat tegenwoordig door middel van een later toegevoegde binnendeur in rechtstreekse verbinding met het belendende pand Kornputsingel 14.
Omschrijving
Het pand heeft een souterrain en een verdieping onder een met bouletpannen gedekt schilddak. De ten opzichte van de belending iets terugliggende voorgevel is slechts twee traveeën breed en wordt verlevendigd door gevelaccenten in de vorm van een gepleisterde plint, deels gebosseerde lisenen, cordonlijst, hoekblokken en speklagen van wit geschilderd pleisterwerk. De gevel wordt beëindigd door een entablement met geprofileerde kroonlijst dat ter plaatse van de lisenen risaleert. De gevelopeningen zijn getoogd en voorzien van gepleisterde segmentbogen met sluitsteen. De niet originele deur (?) met bovenlicht bevindt zich in een portiek. De hoek rechtsvoor is afgesnoten, heeft een venster op de begane grond en op de verdieping een porte brisee met bovenlicht boven de voetplaat van een balkon op consoles met saterkop. Hierboven staat een houten dakkapel met fronton en vleugelstukken. Tegen de drie assen brede zijgevel met cordonlijst en hoeklisenen staat een mogelijk later toegevoegde houten serre met fraaie glas-in-lood bovenramen van Willem Bogtman boven een onderbouw van baksteen. De zijgevel is op de verdieping voorzien van vier gevelopeningen onder segmentboog met sluitsteen. Twee van de gevelopeningen zijn porte brisees met bovenlicht die uitkomen op het serreplat. In beide bouwlagen rechts van de serre en in de vlakke, onversierde achtergevel bevindt zich een enkel venster. Het interieur is op de begane grond nog voor een deel in oorspronkelijke staat. In de gang met de marmeren tegels bedekte vloer is de trap naar boven voorzien van een met een eikel bekroonde gesneden trappaal, die is vervaardigd door de Steenwijker meubelfabriek gebr. Monsieur, waar ook de originele, eveneens met eikelmotief versierde houten kapstok werd vervaardigd. De suite op de parterre is voorzien van de originele vensterbanken, binnenluiken, stucplafonds en schouw met schoorsteenmantel van zwart marmer. De schuifdeuren tussen voor- en achterkamer zijn ingevuld met geslepen glas. De achterkamer is vergelijkbaar met de voorkamer, maar heeft hoekpilastertjes met composietkapiteeltjes aan de schouw. Op de verdieping is na een ingrijpende verbouwing van de oorspronkelijke ruimte-indeling en architectonische details niets over gebleven.
Waardering
Het pand maakt deel uit van een gave laat-19e-eeuwse gevelwand met panden in eclectische stijl. Deze vormen als bebouwing van de voormalige stadswallen en in samenhang met tuin en bebouwing van de villa Rams Woerthe een zeer waardevol stedebouwkundig geheel en hebben derhalve grote stedebouwkundige en ensemblewaarde; de gaafheid en stilistische verscheidenheid maakt ze architectuurhistorisch van belang.

The residential building constructed in 1894 for timber merchant D.H. Wicherson of steam sawmill "de Eikel" is built in an eclectic style. Description
The property has a basement and one storey under a hipped roof covered with bullet tiles. The front facade, set back slightly in relation to the adjoining properties, is only two bays wide and is enlivened by facade accents in the form of a plastered plinth, partly rusticated pilasters, cornice belt, corner blocks and brickwork bands of white-painted plasterwork. The facade is terminated by an entablature with profiled cornice that projects at the location of the pilasters. The facade openings are arched and provided with plastered segmental arches with keystones. The non-original door (?) with fanlight is located in a portico. The front right corner is cut off, has a window on the ground floor and on the first floor a French door with fanlight above the base of a balcony on corbels with satyr head. Above this stands a wooden roof dormer with pediment and wing pieces. Against the three-bay-wide side facade with cornice belt and corner pilasters stands a possibly later-added wooden conservatory with fine stained-glass upper frames by Willem Bogtman above a brick base. The side facade is provided on the first floor with four facade openings under segmental arch with keystone. Two of the facade openings are French doors with fanlights that open onto the conservatory platform. In both storeys to the right of the conservatory and in the flat, undecorated rear facade is a single window. The interior is on the ground floor still partly in original condition. In the hallway with the marble-tiled floor, the staircase upwards is provided with a carved newel post crowned with an acorn, which was made by the Steenwijk furniture factory gebr. Monsieur, where the original wooden coat rack, also decorated with acorn motif, was also made. The suite on the ground floor is provided with original window sills, internal shutters, stuccoed ceilings and fireplace with black marble mantelpiece. The sliding doors between front and rear room are filled with cut glass. The rear room is comparable to the front room but has corner pilasters with composite capitals at the fireplace. On the first floor, after a major renovation of the original spatial layout and architectural details, nothing of the original remains.
Valuation
The property is part of an intact late 19th-century facade wall with properties in eclectic style. These form, as development of the former city walls and in conjunction with garden and buildings of the villa Rams Woerthe, a highly valuable urban planning entity and therefore have great urban planning and ensemble value; the intactness and stylistic diversity make them architecturally historically significant.
