Inleiding
In 1880 is de Rooms Katholieke begraafplaats gesticht, kort daarna is het POORTGEBOUW/LIJKENHUIS gebouwd. Het bakstenen gebouw is uitgevoerd in een mengsel van neo-gotiek en Hollandse neo-renaissancestijl. Dit poortgebouw is identiek aan het exemplaar dat in Deventer staat op de in 1869 gestichte R.K. begraafplaats. Tussen het poortgebouw/lijkenhuis en de weg bevinden zich een toegangshek en solitaire bomen; twee kastanjes en een berk.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand poortgebouw/lijkenhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond met één bouwlaag. Zadeldak, gedekt met tuiles du nordpannen, met steekkappen boven het centrale poortgedeelte. Trapgevels aan alle dakeinden. Met leien bedekte daklijst. Horizontale gevelgeleding door middel van bakstenen plint, spekbanden van baksteen en waterlijsten. Blinde spitsboog nissen in de gevels aan de straatzijde en in de onderdoorgang. Op de kruising een overhoeks geplaatst hoog klokkentorentje met ingezwenkt tentdak (boven inzwenking octogonaal) met leien in maasdekking. Galmgaten onder topgeveltje met windveren.
Aan de begraafplaats zijde (Z) rechtgesloten deuren onder uitgemetselde spitsbogen met gotische traceringen in de boogvelden. Risalerend poortgedeelte met spitsbogen. Poortdoorgang onder rib-kruisgewelf. In de geveltoppen rechtgesloten vensters onder spitsbogen. Roosvensters in alle boogvelden. Muurankers in siersmeedijzer.
Tussen de straat en het poortgebouw staat een hek met bakstenen muurdammen met ezelsruggen afgedekt.

Description
Freestanding gatehouse/mortuary on a rectangular floor plan with one storey. Gabled roof, covered with Tuiles du Nord tiles, with ridge tiles above the central gateway section. Stepped gables at all roof ends. Roof edge covered with slate. Horizontal facade articulation by means of brick plinth, brick bands and drip mouldings. Blind pointed arch niches in the facades on the street side and in the passage. At the crossing, a high bell turret placed at an angle with an inswept tent roof (above the inswept section octagonal) with slate in Dutch bond. Sound holes below a gable with weather vanes.
On the cemetery side (S) straight-headed doors under moulded pointed arches with gothic tracery in the arch fields. Projecting gateway section with pointed arches. Gateway passage under a ribbed cross vault. Straight-headed windows under pointed arches in the gable tops. Rose windows in all arch fields. Ornamental wrought-iron wall anchors.
Between the street and the gatehouse stands a gate with brick wall piers with saddle-back coping.
