Inleiding
Het Directiegebouw, ook bekend als "Commandementsgebouw" en "Het Paleis", dateert uit 1824. Het gebouw is gesitueerd op het noordoostelijke compartiment van het complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord. Het gebouw werd in 1823 ontworpen door I. Valk, Inspecteur der Maritieme Gebouwen, en herbergde naast kantoorruimtes ook de woningen voor de hoofdambtenaren van de directie. Op 7 februari 1824 werd het Directiegebouw aanbesteed voor een bedrag van f.149.000,- aan aannemer D. de Leeuw te Den Helder.
Omschrijving
Fors gebouw bestaande uit een paviljoen met middenrisaliet en twee zijpaviljoens, onderling door vleugels verbonden. Lijstgevels, driehoekig fronton boven de middenrisaliet. Begane grond met rondboogvensters en -deuren door cordonband gescheiden van de bel-etage en de mezzanine-verdieping daarboven. 1823.
Waardering
Het Directiegebouw is van belang als historisch functioneel onderdeel van het complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord. Daarnaast is het gebouw van algemeen belang uit cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van overheidsarchitectuur uit de eerste helft van de 19de eeuw in neo-classicistische bouwtrant. Tevens heeft het gebouw ensemblewaarde met twee overige aan Het Nieuwe Diep gelegen gebouwen, het Hoofdgebouw van het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Marine en het Lesgebouw voor de Adelborsten.

Introduction
The Directorate Building, also known as the "Command Building" and "The Palace", dates from 1824. The building is situated on the northeastern compartiment of the Rijkswerf Willemsoord complex. Description
Substantial building consisting of a pavilion with central projection and two side pavilions, interconnected by wings. Cornice-topped façades, triangular pediment above the central projection. Ground floor with round-arched windows and doors separated by a cordon band from the piano nobile and the mezzanine storey above it. 1823.
Valuation
The Directorate Building is of importance as a historically functional component of the Rijkswerf Willemsoord complex. Moreover, the building is of general importance from a cultural and architectural history point of view as a well-preserved example of government architecture from the first half of the 19th century in neo-classical style. Furthermore, the building has ensemble value with two other buildings located on Het Nieuwe Diep, the Main Building of the Royal Institute for the Marine and the Teaching Building for the Naval Cadets.
