Inleiding
Dubbel WOONHUIS, gebouwd in 1889 in een eclectische bouwstijl met elementen uit de neo-Hollandse Renaissance en chaletstijl. Opdrachtgevers waren L.S. Spanjaard en B. van der Wijk. Mogelijk is het huis ontworpen door G. Beltman die toen al voor de familie Spanjaard werkte. Het woonhuis staat in het centrum van Borne aan de Grotestraat tegenover Villa Elisabeth, Grotestraat 167.
De achterkant van het noordelijke deel van het huis is in 1938 uitgebreid met enkele aanbouwen. De persiènnes die oorspronkelijk de vensters flankeerden zijn verdwenen.
Omschrijving
Het dubbele woonhuis is over één bouwlaag opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een zadeldak met antracietgrijze bouletpannen en een steekkap midden boven de voorgevel. De ver overstekende goot rust op gesneden houten consoles. In de geveltoppen van de zijgevels en onder de steekkap zijn sierspanten bevestigd. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen boven een gepleisterde plint en voorzien van sierbanden in geel metselwerk, smeedijzeren sierankers en segmentbogen met geprofileerde gele gepleisterde sierstenen, aanzet- en sluitstenen.
Midden in de zijgevels (N en Z) zijn de deuren in een portaal onder een bovenlicht geplaatst. Verder zijn de voor- en zijgevels op de begane grond ingedeeld door vensters onder bovenlichten met een kleine roedenverdeling, uitgevoerd in glas-in-lood. In de geveltoppen vensters met kruiskozijnen, daarboven in de zijgevels roosvensters.
De achtergevel van de zuidelijke helft van het huis bevat een zesruits venster en een dubbele deur onder een veranda met sierspanten en gepleisterde kolommetjes.
Inwendig zijn onder meer een trap met houten leuning en een marmeren schouw bewaard gebleven.

Description
The double dwelling house is constructed over one storey on a rectangular ground plan under a gabled roof with anthracite-grey clay tiles and a central gabled roof dormer above the front facade. The far-projecting gutter rests on carved wooden consoles. Ornamental trusses are attached in the gable ends of the side facades and beneath the gabled roof dormer. The facades are constructed in red brick above a plastered plinth and furnished with decorative bands in yellow brickwork, ornamental wrought-iron wall anchors and segmental arches with profiled yellow plastered decorative stones, junction stones and voussoirs.
In the centre of the side facades (N and S) the doors are placed in a portico beneath a fanlight. Furthermore, the front and side facades on the ground floor are divided by windows beneath fanlights with small glazing bars, executed in leaded glass. In the gable ends windows with cross windows, above them roosters windows in the side facades.
The rear facade of the southern half of the house contains a six-pane window and a double door beneath a veranda with ornamental trusses and plastered small columns.
Internally, among other things, a staircase with wooden handrail and a marble fireplace have been preserved.
