Inleiding
Wachthuis voor sluisknechten, tevens sluismeesterskantoor, gebouwd in 1879 ter vervanging van een houten voorganger.
Gebouwd onder invloed van chaletstijl en gelegen aan het Kanaal door Walcheren.
Houten schuurtje en bakstenen bunker achter het object komen niet voor bescherming in aanmerking.
Omschrijving
Het pand heeft een T-vormige plattegrond; begane grond en kapverdieping. Opgetrokken uit roodbruine baksteen. Oorspronkelijk vakwerk in top van voor- en achtergevel vervangen door metselwerk; top in noordelijke zijgevel met origineel vakwerk en siermetselwerk invullingen. Rondom siermetselwerk met geroete steen in banden en raamomlijstingen; rondom op begane grond getoogde houten T-vensters. Voorgevel met entree in getoogde nis; bakstenen trapje.
T-vormig zadeldak gedekt met rode kruispannen; zuidelijk dakvlak met holle pannen; overstekken met strakke windveer met geprofileerde consoles; strakke gootbetimmering.
In het interieur zijn verschillende originele elementen aanwezig, zoals onder meer het originele trappenhuis en een lichtkap in de hal met glas in stalen profielen.

The building has a T-shaped ground plan; ground floor and attic storey. Constructed of reddish-brown brick. Originally half-timbering in the top of front and rear facade replaced by masonry; top in northern side facade with original half-timbering and decorative masonry infills. Around decorative masonry with coloured stone in bands and window surrounds; around on the ground floor arched wooden T-windows. Front facade with entrance in arched recess; brick steps.
T-shaped gabled roof covered with red interlocking tiles; southern roof slope with hollow tiles; overhangs with strict wind vane with profiled consoles; strict gutter cladding.
In the interior various original elements are present, such as among others the original stairwell and a skylight in the hall with glass in steel sections.
