Inleiding
PAKHUIS, in 1862 gebouwd in opdracht van de Fa. J.J. Engberts en Co, stoomspinnerij. Het pand maakte deel uit van het fabriekscomplex Kapok-, Tricot en Veerenfabriek Scholl, Engberts en Scholten (SESA).
Het pakhuis staat aan de Poulinkstraat in het centrum van Almelo.
De vensteropeningen zijn voor een deel dichtgezet, maar de indeling van de gevels is niet gewijzigd. De lift is verdwenen, het mechaniek onder de kap van de torenvormige liftschacht is deels bewaard gebleven. In de voorgevel (Z) is op de begane grond een deur toegevoegd in de voormalige liftschacht.
Omschrijving
Het pakhuis is onderkelderd en boven een grijsgepleisterde plint in rode baksteen over drie bouwlagen opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een plat dak. Rechts in de voorgevel (Z) bevindt zich de voormalige liftschacht in de vorm van een vierkante toren, onder een steil tentdak met rode Hollandse pannen en een overstekende gootlijst op klampen. Direct onder de gootlijst ronde vensters, waaromheen uitkragend siermetselwerk van oranje en witte verblendsteen. In het midden van de voorgevel bevinden zich boven elkaar drie dubbele laaddeuren met daarboven een hijsbalk. De bovenste laaddeur en alle overige vensteropeningen in de voorgevel en rechter zijgevel (O) zijn onder witte lateibalken onder één of twee segmentboogjes in witte en oranje verblendsteen geplaatst. De segementboogjes boven de vensters in de achtergevel (N) zijn in rode baksteen uitgevoerd.
De linker zijgevel (W) is blind.
In het pakhuis ondersteunen stalen kolommen met H-balken moerbalken, die op hun beurt houten vloeren dragen. De kelder wordt overspannen door een gemetseld en aangesmeerd troggewelf op stalen kolommen en H-balken. Ook de trapleuning vervaardigd uit stammetjes is nog bewaard gebleven.

Het pakhuis is van cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege:

The warehouse is located on the Poulinkstraat in the centre of Almelo.
Some of the window openings have been filled in, but the articulation of the facades has not been altered. The lift has disappeared, the machinery under the roof of the tower-shaped lift shaft has been partially preserved. A door has been added to the front facade (S) on the ground floor in the former lift shaft.
Description
The warehouse is cellar building and above a grey-plastered plinth in red brick over three storeys erected on a rectangular ground plan under a flat roof. On the right of the front facade (S) is the former lift shaft in the form of a square tower, under a steep tent roof with red Dutch tiles and an overhanging cornice on clamps. Directly below the cornice circular windows, around which protruding decorative masonry of orange and white facing brick. In the middle of the front facade above each other three double loading doors with above them a lifting beam. The top loading door and all other window openings in the front facade and right side facade (E) are placed under white relieving beams under one or two segmental arches in white and orange facing brick. The segmental arches above the windows in the rear facade (N) are executed in red brick.
The left side facade (W) is blind.
In the warehouse steel columns with H-beams support transfer beams, which in turn carry wooden floors. The cellar is spanned by a brick and rendered trough vault on steel columns and H-beams. The stair handrail made of wooden posts has also been preserved.
