Inleiding
WAAG- ANNEX MARKTGEBOUW uit 1913 met een rijk gedecoreerde voorgevel in Hollandse neo-renaissancestijl naar een ontwerp van de stadsarchitect P. Kolpa. De in verband met de latere kantoorfunctie sterk gewijzigde achtergevel (W) en het interieur zijn voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang. Oorspronkelijk waren onder de rondbogen op de begane grond in de voorgevel deuren aangebracht. Het gebouw vormt samen met het bankgebouw, het Gerechtsgebouw en het Huis van Bewaring een vrij gave oudere gevelwand in het grotendeels recent vernieuwde centrum van Almelo.
Omschrijving Pand van twee bouwlagen op L-vormige plattegrond onder steile zadeldaken met leien in Maasdekking. De gevels zijn boven een plint van Bentheimer steen opgetrokken in bruine baksteen. De voorgevel (O) is horizontaal geleed met natuurstenen speklagen, een cordonlijst en een doorlopende waterlijst onder de verdiepingsvensters. De geprofileerde gootlijst rust op zandstenen consoles. Het risaliet rechts aan de voorgevel wordt boven de gootlijst bekroond door een trapgevel met natuurstenen vleugelstukken op de trappen en op het fronton een gebeeldhouwde leeuw met wapenschild. Op de begane grond vier vensters met roedenverdeling onder rondbogen. De zware dubbele deur links heeft grote smeedijzeren gehengen en een bovenlicht onder rondboog. Op de verdieping acht kruisvensters met glas-in-lood in de bovenlichten en zesruits onderramen met luiken. Het roosvenster boven de begane grondvensters in het risaliet wordt in de geveltop herhaald.
De bogen en strekken boven vensters en deuren zijn gedecoreerd met blokken van Bentheimer zandsteen. De grote gemetselde dakkapel in het dakschild links van de trapgevel wordt geflankeerd door natuurstenen vleugelstukken. De zandstenen bekroning heeft de vorm van een halsgevel met fronton en klauwstukken. Verder in het dakschild aan de voorzijde kleine kajuitjes onder overstekende schilddakjes.
De blinde linker zijgevel (Z) heeft een trapgevel met speklagen en natuurstenen afdekplaten op de trappen. In het gemetselde muurtje tussen de blinde rechter zijgevel (N) en het naastgelegen bankgebouw een deur onder rondboog met een natuurstenen lijst. De balustrade op het muurtje bestaat uit gedraaide balusters.

WEIGH-HOUSE ANNEX MARKET BUILDING from 1913 with a richly decorated front facade in Dutch neo-renaissance style based on a design by the city architect P. Kolpa. The rear facade (W) and interior, which were substantially altered in connection with its later office function, are of subordinate importance for the protection. Originally doors were installed under the semicircular arches on the ground floor in the front facade. The building forms together with the banking building, the Courthouse and the House of Detention a fairly well-preserved older facade row in the largely recently renewed centre of Almelo.
Description Building of two storeys on an L-shaped ground plan under steep gabled roofs with slate in Maas covering. The facades are built above a plinth of Bentheimer stone in brown brick. The front facade (E) is horizontally articulated with natural stone stone-banding, a cordline and a continuous drip moulding under the floor windows. The moulded cornice rests on sandstone consoles. The risalit on the right of the front facade is crowned above the cornice with a stepped gable with natural stone wing pieces on the steps and on the pediment a sculptured lion with coat of arms. On the ground floor four windows with glazing bars under semicircular arches. The heavy double door on the left has large wrought-iron hinges and a fanlight under semicircular arch. On the floor above eight cross windows with leaded glass in the fanlights and six-pane lower sashes with shutters. The circular window above the ground floor windows in the risalit is repeated in the roof peak.
The arches and spans above windows and doors are decorated with blocks of Bentheimer sandstone. The large brick dormer in the roof section to the left of the stepped gable is flanked by natural stone wing pieces. The sandstone coping has the form of a neck gable with pediment and claw pieces. Further in the roof section at the front small cabin windows under overhanging hipped roof tiles.
The blind left side facade (S) has a stepped gable with stone-banding and natural stone cover plates on the steps. In the brick wall between the blind right side facade (N) and the adjacent banking building a door under semicircular arch with a natural stone moulding. The balustrade on the wall consists of turned balusters.
