Omschrijving onderdeel 43:
TUINVAZEN ROTSTUIN behorende tot de buitenplaats Twickel. Vier 18de-eeuwse bolvormige (pompoenachtige) vazen van Bentheimer zandsteen op eenvoudig geprofileerde hardstenen dekplaat. Per twee verspreid staande in de rotstuin ter markering van een doorgang en van een gezicht. Oorspronkelijk vormden de vazen de bekroning van de balustrade van het belvedère op de zuidtoren (zie tekening Abraham de Haen uit 1729).
Waardering:
TUINVAZEN ROTSTUIN van algemeen belang - vanwege de ouderdom; - als een typisch vroeg 20ste-eeuwse voorbeeld van hergebruik van bouwfragmenten ter decoratie van de tuinaanleg; - vanwege de functioneel ruimtelijke relatie met de andere onderdelen van de buitenplaats.

Description of component 43:
GARDEN VASES ROCK GARDEN belonging to the country house Twickel. Four 18th-century spherical (pumpkin-like) vases of Bentheimer sandstone on simply profiled hard stone cap. In pairs scattered in the rock garden marking a passageway and a vista. Originally the vases formed the crowning of the balustrade of the belvedere on the south tower (see drawing by Abraham de Haen from 1729).
Valuation:
GARDEN VASES ROCK GARDEN of general importance - because of their age; - as a typical early 20th-century example of the reuse of building fragments for the decoration of the garden layout; - because of their functionally spatial relationship with the other components of the country house.
