Omschrijving
Het WOONHUIS is over één bouwlaag opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder twee aaneengesloten zadeldaken met antracietgrijze Hollandse pannen. In het dak zijn drie dakkapellen met vierruits vensters geplaatst. De voorgevel met de twee trapgevels is boven een gepleisterde plint opgetrokken in rode baksteen en opgesierd met speklagen en decoratieve muurankers. De trappen zijn voorzien van hardstenen dekplaten. De zijgevels zijn opgetrokken in een oudere baksteen dan de voorgevel. In de voorgevel (N) op de begane grond T-vensters. De dubbele houten voordeur bevindt zich in het midden van de linker trapgevel. De vensters en deur zijn onder rondboogstrekken geplaatst en de boogvelden zijn gevuld met metselmozaïeken van verschillende kleuren baksteen. In de geveltoppen grote kruisvensters tussen twee kleinere, eveneens met metselmozaïeken in de boogvelden. Het middelste grote kruisvenster wordt afgesloten door een korfboog en het kozijn is uitgevoerd in zandsteen. In de bovenlichten bevindt zich glas-in-lood en in het grote linker venster zijn nog luiken aanwezig. Bovenin de geveltoppen kleine roosvensters. In de linker zijgevel (W) worden de T-vensters afgesloten door een strek. Rechts in de gevel een opkamervenster dat samen met de daklijn verspringt. Eronder een kelderluik. De rechter zijgevel (O) bevat enkele zesruits vensters met en zonder luiken en verschillende deuren. De gevel getuigt van een aantal bouwfasen.
Het westelijke deel van het woonhuis is aan de achterzijde ingebouwd. Aan de achterzijde van het oostelijke deel wordt een (nog oorspronkelijke) tuitgevel, boven een klimmend zandstenen fries, bekroond door een driedelige trap rustend op een console met korfboog.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege:
- de Hollandse Neo-Renaissance bouwstijl die in Twente zelden zo gedetailleerd is toegepast
- de rijke ornamentiek
- de beeldbepalende ligging schuin tegenover het gemeentehuis aan de Markt

The DWELLING HOUSE is constructed over one storey on a rectangular floor plan under two adjoining gabled roofs with anthracite-grey Dutch tiles. In the roof are placed three roof dormers with four-pane windows. The front facade with the two stepped gables is constructed above a plastered plinth in red brick and decorated with decorative brickwork and ornamental wall anchors. The steps are provided with hardstone copings. The side facades are constructed in older brick than the front facade. In the front facade (N) on the ground floor T-windows. The double wooden front door is located in the middle of the left stepped gable. The windows and door are placed under round arches and the arch fields are filled with brick mosaics of different coloured bricks. In the gable tops large cross windows between two smaller ones, likewise with brick mosaics in the arch fields. The middle large cross window is closed by a basket arch and the frame is executed in sandstone. In the fanlights is found leaded glass and in the large left window shutters are still present. At the top of the gable tops small rose windows. In the left side facade (W) the T-windows are closed by a lintel. To the right in the facade a chamber window that together with the roof line steps back. Below it a cellar hatch. The right side facade (E) contains several six-pane windows with and without shutters and various doors. The facade testifies to a number of building phases.
The western part of the dwelling house is built in on the rear side. On the rear side of the eastern part is a (still original) spout gable, above a climbing sandstone frieze, crowned by a three-part step resting on a console with basket arch.
Valuation
The dwelling house is of architectural-historical and townscape importance because of:
- the Dutch Neo-Renaissance building style which is rarely applied in Twente in such detail
- the rich ornamentation
- the distinctive location diagonally opposite the town hall on the Market square
