Inleiding
Het voormalige GEMEENTEHUIS van Ambt en Stad Delden werd in 1873 door de Hengelose architect J. Moll ontworpen in een eclectische bouwstijl. Toen het gebouw niet meer functioneerde als gemeentehuis werd het in gebruik genomen als rechtbank. Vervolgens werd er het politiebureau in gevestigd en tegenwoordig is het de huisvesting van het zoutmuseum, waarvoor enkele vensters aan de binnenzijde geblindeerd zijn.
Het gebouw staat op een hoek, met de voorgevel aan de Langestraat en de zijgevel aan de Markt. De gevel aan de Langestraat bestond oorspronkelijk uit drie traveeën met een excentrisch geplaatste entree. In 1906 is het pand aan de oostzijde uitgebreid met twee traveeën, waardoor een symmetrische gevel ontstond.
Omschrijving Het gemeentehuis is opgetrokken vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over twee bouwlagen onder een afgeknot schilddak. Het dak, dat gedekt is met antracietgrijze tuile du Nord-pannen, is aan de west- en zuidzijde voorzien van een grote dakkapel met twee rondboogvensters. De voorgevel (Z) bestaat uit vijf, de zijgevel (W) uit vier traveeën. Het geveloppervlak is gepleisterd en horizontaal geleed door een grijze plint, een basement, een cordonlijst en een fries met overstekende gootlijst. De cordonlijsten zijn geprofileerd door rechthoekige en ronde casementen, de hoekpilasters alleen door rechthoekige casementen.
De dubbele deur bevindt zich in de middelste travee van de voorgevel. Voor de ingang een hardstenen trap van vier treden. Het venster boven de ingang is voorzien van tracering.
Rechts van de voorgevel staat een klein muurtje met een dubbele houten poortdeur.
De rondboogvensters in de gevels zijn uitgevoerd met T-kozijnen en glas-in-lood bovenlichten. De omtrek van de rondboogvensters wordt door middel van een profilering in het gevelvlak benadrukt. Van het interieur zijn onder meer een aantal paneeldeuren, lambrizeringen en de trap in de hal bij de entree bewaard gebleven.

The former TOWN HALL of Ambt and Stad Delden was designed in 1873 by the Hengelo architect J. Moll in an eclectic architectural style. Description The town hall is constructed on a rectangular floor plan over two storeys under a truncated hipped roof. The roof, which is covered with anthracite-grey tuile du Nord tiles, has on the west and south sides a large roof dormer with two round-arch windows. The front facade (S) consists of five, the side facade (W) of four bays. The facade surface is plastered and articulated horizontally by a grey plinth, a basement, a string course and a frieze with overhanging gutter moulding. The string courses are articulated by rectangular and round panels, the corner pilasters only by rectangular panels.
The double door is located in the middle bay of the front facade. Before the entrance a hard stone staircase of four steps. The window above the entrance is equipped with tracery.
To the right of the front facade stands a small wall with a double wooden gate door.
The round-arch windows in the facades are executed with T-frames and stained-glass fanlights. The outline of the round-arch windows is emphasised by means of a moulding in the facade surface. From the interior, among other things, a number of panelled doors, wall panelling and the staircase in the entrance hall have been preserved.
