Inleiding
In opdracht van de "Ruslandganger" D.G. Harmsen werd dit HERENHUIS in 1880 gebouwd. Het pand in eclectische stijl staat aan het Westeinde in Vriezenveen. Ten noorden van het huis is een koetshuis aangebouwd. De handel werd in de loop van de negentiende eeuw in Vriezenveen één van de belangrijkste bestaansbronnen. Terwijl de fabrikanten in Twente zorg droegen voor de verkoop van de stoffen hielden de Vriezenveners de distributie in eigen hand. Vanuit Vriezenveen werd vooral veel gehandeld op Rusland en met name St. Petersburg.
Omschrijving
Rechthoekig gepleisterd pand over twee bouwlagen met een mezzanino opgetrokken onder een afgeknot schilddak met antracietkleurige pannen. De T-vensters zijn gevat in een afgeronde gepleisterde profiellijst met kuiven.
De voorgevel (Z) telt vier vensterassen en wordt horizontaal geleed door een cordonlijst. De vensters hebben een doorlopende waterdorpel. De mezzanino is uitgerust met vier smalle liggende vensters. In de linker zijgevel (W) zijn twee vensters en een deur geplaatst en drie vensters op de verdieping.
De rechter zijgevel (O) bevat een omlijste deur met siersmeedwerk tussen twee vensters. Op de verdieping drie vensters.
Het koetshuis heeft aan de oostzijde een meerruits venster en een getoogde dubbele deur. Op het dak een dakkapel met vleugelstukken.
De indeling van het interieur, evenals enkele gave onderdelen, waaronder een tochtdeur met glas-in-lood raam en boven- en zijlichten, zijn bewaard gebleven. In het deel van het koetshuis naast de woning (westzijde) een tweede hal met twee vertrekken en een toilet. In de beide hoofdvertrekken aan de zuidzijde van het woonhuis op de begane grond een betegelde kachel met een teracotta hoofdgestel, reliëf en schoorsteenmantel afkomstig uit Rusland. Verder een trap met gedecoreerde trappaal en trapleuningen met smeedijzeren spijlen en een keuken met houten keukenkasten, een granito aanrecht en een pomp.

This TOWNHOUSE was built in 1880 on the commission of the "Ruslandganger" D.G. Harmsen. The building in eclectic style is located on the Westeinde in Vriezenveen. To the north of the house a coachhouse has been added. Trade became one of the most important sources of livelihood in Vriezenveen during the course of the nineteenth century. Whilst the manufacturers in Twente took care of the sales of textiles, the people of Vriezenveen held the distribution in their own hands. From Vriezenveen there was particularly much trade with Russia and notably St. Petersburg.
Description
Rectangular rendered building over two storeys with a mezzanine constructed under a truncated hipped roof with anthracite-coloured tiles. The T-windows are set in a rounded rendered profile moulding with hoods.
The front facade (S) contains four window bays and is divided horizontally by a stringcourse. The windows have a continuous drip moulding. The mezzanine is equipped with four narrow horizontal windows. In the left side facade (W) two windows and a door are placed and three windows on the upper storey.
The right side facade (E) contains a framed door with decorative metalwork between two windows. On the upper storey three windows.
The coachhouse has on the east side a multi-pane window and an arched double door. On the roof a roof dormer with wing pieces.
The layout of the interior, as well as some intact components, including a draught-door with glass-in-lead window and upper and side lights, have been preserved. In the part of the coachhouse next to the residence (west side) a second hall with two rooms and a toilet. In both main rooms on the south side of the townhouse on the ground floor a tiled stove with a terracotta mantel piece, relief and chimney piece originating from Russia. Furthermore a staircase with decorated newel post and stair railings with wrought-iron balusters and a kitchen with wooden kitchen cupboards, a granito worktop and a pump.
